Unique challenges are faced in virtualized environments. A Go Slow approach is advised by Cloud IBN.

Virtual machines are dynamic, mobile and often simulated by your cloud provider for backup and availability. If you are one of those carrying concern about data privacy and security then here is a questionnaire that you must put in front of your cloud computing partner. A comprehensive checklist about the data centre protection, security measures and internet data policies followed by your cloud service provider.

Outsourcing your IT to Cloud does not mean that your risk management obligations can be sidestepped. While moving company data to cloud check if your cloud service provider (CSP) has an adequate cyber security protection, to protect your data.

This particular checklist covers six important areas where you can expect specific answers from your CSP (Cloud Security Provider).

According to CloudIBN officials this checklist will prove to be a best jumping off point for the organisations that are planning to move their IT infrastructure on cloud.

  1. Validated Data Protection: An effective and definite data protection plan having proper data strategy is all that your CSP needs to protect your online data.
  2. Compliant IT team: Your cloud provider must encompass a trustworthy, compliant IT team who can upgrade themselves to match the ever changing security requirements of the growing industry. See if they have proper processes in place to ensure data security and integrity.
  3. Physical Security: Check the physical access protocol adapted by your CSP. The data is now moving to premises other than your own turf. Physical security provisions made over there should also be pre checked.
  4. Compliance to geographical requirements: Geographical location also matters as some of the companies face legislation by the local country requiring specific type of data needs to be kept within predefined geographical borders.
  5. Established internal data policies: Adhere a best internal data policy and decide it beforehand, which data is going to cross your firewall and which will stay within your premises.
  6. Employee cloud guidelines: Determine if they have a dedicated and specially trained security staff.

Negotiate the most comprehensive, measurable Service level agreement with your CSP, which covers all the above mentioned areas. While opting for the cost effective and efficient way of business, a ‘Go Slow’ approach to get data security assurance, from cloud service provider is a good move.
