Goa is a tiny green state nestled on the western coast of India. It is the smallest state in the nation and was included in the national territory in 1961. It is an old Portuguese territory surrounded by the azure waters of Arabian Sea and the everlasting hills of Sahyadri Mountain Range. Aguada Fort - Located on the Sinquerim Beach the Aguada Fort is one of the best preserved Portuguese bastions in the state. It was built in 1612 and today acts as a great reference to the checkered past of the state. Inside the fortress there is a 19th century lighthouse offering panoramic views of the region. There also exists an old central jail within the fort premise.
Se Cathedral - Goa is a heritage place and there are numerous old relics and monuments from the bygone era that are still dotting it. Se Cathedral is one of the most significant and oldest monuments in the state that dates back to the era of Portuguese dominance in the region. It was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese over Muslims that marked the beginning of Portuguese rule in the region. Since the day of victory coincided with of Saint Catherine so the church was dedicated to her. It is a beautiful structure and worth visiting.
Ponda - It is a small city located to the southeast of Panaji, the capital of the state. Unlike the rest of Goa the place was annexed by the Portuguese very late. It was only in 1791 when the place was finally occupied by the Portuguese, until then it was ruled by several Hindu kings including the Sonde Rajas of Vijayanagar Empire. Today, it is known as the cultural capital of the north Goa. Visiting the place is a-must, particularly if you are a culture buff.
Baga Beach - Situated in North Goa, Baga Beach Goa is the centre of tourist attractions in the state. Scenic views, thrilling water sports, and a plenitude of other things to do, make the small fishing village a major tourist hot spot. Amongst the popular activities include: parasailing, dolphin spotting, banana boat ride, basking sun, and relishing culinary seafood at the beach-side restaurants.
