Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time listening to various kinds of music online. It’s totally fun to seek out and find new artists. Another thing I like to do is to reminisce with classic music videos. I like watching the music videos because it helps to understand a song and get a feel for the artist. A few days ago I was clicking around and happened upon a different type of music that I’d never heard before. There’s an artist named D'banj and he is a singer and songwriter from Nigeria. Apparently D'banj is not only a singer/songwriter but he also plays the harmonica. Because I didn’t know anything about D'banj, I decided to listen to a few songs and watch a few D'banj music videos. D'banj has a completely different sound because he combines many different styles of music. He takes hip hop, rap, and reggae and mixes in a little bit of African drum beat.

It’s a unique sound that won him several awards including a BET award for best international act. The sound is so upbeat that you just can’t help but want to get up and dance. In fact, I got up from my computer and began bopping around the house. I’m new to this music so I’m still learning how to understand lyrics but that didn’t matter because the use of instruments was so much fun that I got my whole kitchen cleaned while dancing around to the electronic beat.

I thought the evening was going to be a lazy evening but instead it was a productive evening watching and listening to D'banj music videos. I thought I would just waste the night sitting down in front of the computer but instead this unique sound got me up off of the couch and into the kitchen dancing around and wiping counters, loading dishes and mopping the floor. I’m sure I burned calories dancing to the Nigerian beat of D'banj’s music.

Also, if you are bored with your old music and looking for something new I recommend checking out a few D'banj music videos. I challenge you to listen to this music and not get up and dance around. The beat is way too tempting and you can’t help yourself; you just have to dance around. You won’t be able to sit still. D'banj has cleverly mashed together the genres of music from hip hop, rap, and reggae, and mixed in a little Nigerian twist to make a unique sound of music.
