Training is the vital part of the life of a dog. It can be made easy with the help of a dog collar. Dog collars are made up of various materials like cotton, metal, leather or nylon and also available in different types which are briefly described below:

Flat Buckle Collars: It is the basic collar which is made up of strip of leather or nylon with a metal or plastic buckle. It is the most popular and oldest type of collar in the world. Basically, it is not a training collar because it is used to hold the strap when it is put around the dog's neck

Choke chain or Slip Dog Collars: It is one of the widely used training collars but its use is limited as its long use creates injury to the dog’s neck. It is the combination of chain and collar which gets tight or loose on pulling or releasing the leash respectively.

Pronged or Pinch Collars: These collars are composed of series of chain links and sharp projections on every link. The working is same as the choke collars but they push the neck of the dog a little rather than giving a shock which makes them better and safer to use.

Martingale Collars: These collars are especially designed for small dogs or dog with smaller head. It doesn’t have a buckle and also slips over the head of the dog easily.

Head Halter Collars: These are placed on the dog's head, from the neck to nose which connects with the leash on the dog's chin. It is suitable for the large and strong dogs or the dogs that has the tendency of pulling himself. When the leash is pull, the dog's head also pulls down or on the side that makes it impossible for the dog to move ahead and also controls the dog.

Harness: It is placed around the neck and shoulders of the dog. It is recommended for the dogs having upper respiratory diseases. It is also suitable for those suffering from diseases of the throat or trachea.

Shock Collars: These collars are also called as electronic collars which are most frequently used because they are hand-held and easy to use. In the electronic dog collar training the collar gives an electric shock to the dog if it misbehaves or barks unnecessarily.
