Police Cars Go Luxury

Have you ever pictured yourself speeding down the highway in a beautiful car (perhaps with a beautiful girl in the passenger seat) with a convoy offive cops chasing you like you see in your favorite action flick? Let’s be honest, almost all men have had this daydream. The sad part is that whatever luxury race car you picture yourself driving, the police cars that are chasing you may be even faster and more luxurious.

Here are the top 3 police vehicles that will under run your dream car.

  1. If your fantasy takes place in Britain, watch out. The British rozzers have gone further upscale with the newest option of a Jaguar. But as we’re accustomed to hearing the V8 under a Jaguar’s hood in North America, these international police cruisers have 275-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesels under their bonnets. However desirable the XF, we maintain it’s more enjoyable to ride in one stateside, uncuffed and in the driver’s seat.
  2. From the city that introduced the seven-star luxury hotel to the world and counts among its attractions a man-made archipelago and an indoor ski resort brought an Aston Martin One-77 to its police fleet in April. Officers in Dubai who drive the ultra-exclusive hyper-coupe, which has a top speed of 200mph, will have to write nearly $2 million in tickets just to cover the purchase price. Dubai’s fleet of patrol cars already includes such modest, understated vehicles as the Lamborghini Aventador, Nissan GT-R and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.
  3. In May 2004, Lamborghini gave the Italian State Police (Polizia di Stato) a Lamborghini Gallardo to celebrate the organization’s 152nd anniversary, and another one was bequeathed the Polizia the following year. Then in 2008, the State Police received Lamborghini’s latest model, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The 2008 vehicle was used by the Lazio Highway Police Department to increase presence on the country’s roadways. Accidents and crime prevention were at the top of the to-do list – and for good reason. According to a 2009 article, in 2008, 4,731 people were killed in car accidents in Italy. The Gallardo LP560-4 has a top speed of 203 mph (327 km/h) and goes from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds. It has a 560 horsepower, 5.2L V10 engine and is undoubtedly a crime-fighting force to be reckoned with. On top of that, the cars are equipped with a high-tech video system, a defibrillator, and a refrigerator for transporting donor organs. Unfortunately, in December 2009, Italian police crashed and wrote off one of the Lamborghini Gallardos when a motorist pulling out of a gas station clipped the vehicle and sent it hurtling into a line of parked cars.

Remember that dream may seem amazing and exhilarating, but in reality the Honda Civic that’s parked in your driveway doesn’t stand a chance of outrunning a regular North American police car and especially not one of the super police cars driven in Europe – so think twice before getting yourself into a high speed police chase situation.
