Are you thinking about replacing your big bulky projector with a new mobile projector? Then be a little more conscious because technology has gone up a few notches since your last buy. A few years ago, purchasing a projector was as easy as deciding a budget size that was portable and robust. But with newer connectivity features, widescreen availability and HD resolution things have changed significantly. And as if this wasn’t enough - the arrival of disruptive technologies further raised the price of the business projectors. Also it’s often observed that projectors used for business purposes undergo a rigorous and prolonged usage - in some case longer than a PC.

From the monetary perspective, you also have to justify your expenses with the number of clients the presentations got you. So here are some tips for you when you go out on the projector hunt:

Weight Matters

Usually, the bulkier your machine, the brighter and clearer image projection it provides. That means, if your usage is large meeting rooms intensive with a comparatively larger audience - then have a good budget. Also, if the daily logistics involve simple carry-it-in-car to the projection site then the weight factor should be quite manageable.

However, if a large chunk of your work meeting involve a plane trip, then you should and must prefer a more portable projector. Needless, to say the flight trips would require to be lighter and hassle-free and with a bulky projector will make those business trips more tiresome, affecting your efficiency in a major way. Isn’t time and speed all that matters in your market?

Wide range of compatible features and lesser space makes this range of best mobile projectors quite a buy at the right price with the right technology. And many of these smaller marvels are savvy enough to be connected with your iPods and smartphones.

Focus more on Image Quality

Anyone who has ever bought a full theater projector would surely have sat through long hours of Google searches about the image-engine technologies like DLP,LCD and LED. And so this point concerns them as one always wants the best in class color and overall projection delivery. On the business-front, however the use of video is quite limited and so you can easily afford to skip the catalogues’ rantings about which technology excels where. Even some of the mobile projectors available in Indian market use the LED engines that is capable of a consistent image quality and that too on that small a scale.

Point being that, one should focus on the brightness rating depicted on your projector. This is quoted in ANSI lumens. A portable projector ideally lies in the range of around 1,000 lumens and can be easily used in an office or small conference hall where you can control the ambient light.

But, if you want to use it in a larger meeting room or classroom, you can manage with a range between 2,000 to 2,500 lumens. Such projectors are capable of a strong projection up to 25 feet in a dark room.

Also remember to not consider the contrast ratio because there’s no standardised way of measuring this spec.

Resolution, Yes it Matters

Many brands let you select a different resolution than the default setting, but it has obvious effects on your image quality adversely. In general, to break this enigma, one should assume that the default setting is what you’ll run your projector on for most of its life. So keep a safe bet there.

Today, affordable and Short Throw Projectors can support a wide range from 800X600 to a full 1080p HD screen resolution. You can conveniently choose to stop at anything between this range.

In closing, realize that making the right buy decision is all it takes here. It’s advisable to have a performance balance between both image and resolution intensive use (like videos, website, images) and your conventional lighter use (powerpoint presentations etc.).
