Nashik is a holy city on the banks of river Godavari. This pilgrimage town is about 145 km away from Mumbai. Nashik is known for hosting Kumbha Mela after every 12 years. However, now, the city is famous for the growing industrial centres and wine factories. The city is also known for its involvement in Indian independence struggle. There are various types of places to visit in Nashik.

Nashik is a socially, culturally and religiously very rich city. It is a treat for all god lovers. The banks of the river are filled with temples and religious centres. It is believed Nashik is one of the sites where Lord Rama with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman stayed during their 14 years of exile. The Sita Gufa from where Ravana kidnapped Sita stands as an evidence to the legend. Even, the city got its name from 'Nasika' when Lakshman cut off Surpanakha's nose. Just outside the Nashik, you will also see the Buddhist Pandava lena caves with superb rock carvings. There are several Nashik tourist places to explore and understand the mythological history of the place. Mukti Dham, Sita Gufa, Kala Ram temple, Panchavati and Tribakeshwar are the popular spots to visit. You can feel the peace as soon as you reach the place. The city has a bag full delight for the travellers.

After exploring the old Nashik city, go ahead to the Pandava lena caves built by Jain Kings which is around 2000 years old. There are 24 Buddhist caves built over the hill top. As you proceed inside the cave, you will witness Buddha statues in various shapes and sizes. The architecture of the caves is a treat to the history buffs. From the top of the hill, the view of the city is amazing. Someshwar which houses many temples is now a renowned spot for film shootings and recreational activities like swimming and boating. Coin museum and the mineral museum are two great places to perceive some historical items. The coin museum houses some fine collection and documented Indian currency history. The museum is 32 km away from the Nashik city but it is a recommended place to visit.

Overall, Nashik is a good place to visit with your family and friend. The best time to visit is from October to March when the weather remain pleasant and Nashik temple hopping is not a difficult task. Wrapped in Hindu mythological tales, Nashik is frequented by both domestic and foreign tourists. The city is now bestowed with all the necessary amenities to provide a hassle-free tour. Reaching the place is easy as Gandhinagar Airport is the nearest and you will get flights from Delhi, Mumbai and few other cities. Nashik has its own railway station, Nasik Road. Scheduled trains from various cities connect Nashik. State buses and private tourists buses are available from other parts of Maharashtra which will take you to Nashik at a nominal fare.

A trip to Nashik is full of surprises and delights. The city has its own unique charm and it has enough to bring you back.
