If you are looking to mix culture and a vibrant nightlife on a visit to Rome, Trastevere offers all this and plenty more. The district is rich in pubs, clubs and restaurants, in part due to its high population of American students, and is said to be a centre of Roman nightlife. With easy access via transport links, Trastevere is just a short ride from the city centre. If you're booked in to a design hotel, Rome is on your doorstep from this delightful district.

See, do, experience it all!

The district not only provides a vibrant nightlife but also a huge slice of the history and art the city is famed for. Its narrow cobbled streets are lined by medieval houses and fascinating historic monuments. Wandering along the winding cobblestones and getting ‘lost’ in this wonderful part of the city can offer an altogether different experience than in the mainstream tourist areas.

Trastevere is often overlooked in favour of the more high profile areas like the Vatican City, but when staying here, in the comfort of a luxurious design hotel, Rome can be appreciated for much more than its big attractions. Trastevere boasts some impressive architecture and is well worth exploring by foot to get the most of the eclectic and buzzing atmosphere. Buskers and street artists frequent the popular Piazza S. Maria, and you can enjoy the show with an ice cream on the steps or relax for longer in one of the restaurants or bars. The outdoor seating provides the perfect opportunity for lunch or dinner.

Although the days might be quiet the district comes alive at night, and one of Trastevere’s liveliest areas is the Piazza Trilussa. The area attracts a dynamic crowd of students and young people who fill the various pubs, bars and nightclubs that surround the bustling square. From the square, all streets lead to the Piazza Santa Maria, a popular meeting spot and the top venue for street artists and performers.

For an edgier nightlife experience, join the crowd that gathers at the Piazza San Cosimato. It's a great place to experience Trastevere’s nightlife on a budget, with a friendly bar offering drinks at 'locals' prices. Throughout Trastevere an outdoor lifestyle prevails and revellers spill onto the streets in the summer months long into the evenings.

If a busy nightlife is not your scene, there's no shortage of culture and history to explore from beyond the steps of your design hotel. Rome's spectacular views are also at a premium from this area and an evening stroll followed by aperitivos at a local bar makes for the perfect laidback holiday experience.
