As we all know a public address system (PA system) is an electronic sound amplification, widely used to distribute and increase the sound for a large mass of people, for announcements such as large auditoriums like public institutions, sports stadiums, and locations. The simplest form of PA systems consists of a microphone, an amplifier and loudspeakers to convert the electrical signals into sounds. Finding the right PA system can be a tough task between so many different specifications, options and sizes available. Certainly, there are some practical guidelines that will lead you to get the right PA system, effective enough to fulfil your requirements.

1. Portable or Stationary?

An easy way to hit the road is to choose between indoors or outdoors performance. Stationary systems are designed when you need to reach the crowd while they are seated in blanchers. A portable sound system gives you the opportunity to easily move your gear wherever you want, without tripping over cables, or ruining the annoying wires.

2. Estimate the Number of your Audience

Portable PA systems can be a very valuable tool if you need to reach anywhere from 100 to 8000 people if you know how to use it properly. Whenever you intend to use PA in public, precisely choose the exact number of people you want to reach before purchasing the final equipment. Remember, that if you are not certain about the size of your audience, it is advisable to overestimate than underestimate the total number because you can always lower the volume on the bigger, louder, system.

3. Decide the Exact area of Coverage

You can’t use the same setting for popular music concerts as for any casual event in a night club, thus the audio sets and appliances are quite different, just like for the audience size. Taken together, it is better to overestimate the location so you don’t have to worry about the lack of cables, and equipment during the event.

4. Use the Desired Features to Boost Engagement at your Event

As an event planner you are probably familiar with the fact that a Portable PA System offers a wide variety of options for different organizational and audio strength (iPod/iPhone, MP3 Player, CD players/recorders) and microphone options. Unquestionably, there are plenty of variables to consider (wireless, handheld, lapel, headset, etc.) and the most important consideration how much money you can invest. In short, volume and tone controls are pretty standard. Many systems have additional features to upgrade the volume level of the music or the sound when speaking into the microphone.
