There is a plethora of family adventure holidays to choose from, so whether you have young children or teenagers, or a mix of both, there really is something out there for everyone. Taking your family away on holiday, however, takes a fair bit of organisation. Family travel insurance, for example is an absolute necessity when you're embarking on an adventure holiday. Most travel companies will prompt you to take out a policy, but if not, make sure you don’t forget to cover yourself with a good family travel insurance policy for peace of mind.

Windsurfing With the Family

A very popular kind of family activity holiday is windsurfing, and the sport allows you a host of superb destinations from which to choose. Here is our guide to picking a family windsurfing destination.

Suitable for Beginners

The Red Sea has some great destinations perfect for complete beginners or those wanting to improve on their basic skills. The shallow waters in resorts such as Dahab and Safaga are ideal, and Turkey’s Alacati, as well as Rosas on the Costa Brava also have good conditions - complemented by a great mix of culture and other activities. Hurghada, situated on the Red Sea, is one of the best, however, with its natural bay providing protection from stronger winds. Lessons can be organised for youngsters, with junior rigs to help your kids gain confidence and learn new skills. Intermediate and advanced windsurfers will also have a great time here, with the rest of the bay offering excellent slalom and freestyle conditions.

Windsurfing Combined with Culture and Cuisine

If you want a little more from your holiday, head to Alacati on the Turkish Riviera. With excellent family friendly hotels, a good range of restaurants, perfect conditions, and a huge range of other facilities and activities to get involved in, Alacati has plenty going for it. The shallow bay is very safe and almost landlocked, boasting flat waters and light winds, which are perfect for the youngsters wanting to improve their skills.

Off the water, the windsurfing centre has a fitness area, swimming facilities and volleyball, as well as a great atmosphere. The town is home to every kind of restaurant you can imagine, ranging from the traditional Turkish to the more familiar pizza and BBQ style eateries. Take a break from surfing to visit Ephesus, Pamukkale or Assos, take a dip in the hot mud springs, or visit vibrant local markets.

Looking for Luxury?

If you're looking for a little luxury on your family windsurfing holiday, head straight to Mauritius. The stunning turquoise waters bordered by dazzling white sands and luxury hotels make it a destination second to none. Most hotels here offer kids clubs, a la carte restaurants, and a plethora of other activities.

Whatever stage of expertise your family is at in the exciting sport of windsurfing, there's a destination to suit, but regardless of where you go, ensure you cover yourself with a good family travel insurance policy to give you complete peace of mind.
