Finding Modestly Priced Kensington Hotels

Some people automatically disregard the option of staying in one of the excellent Kensington hotels on a visit to London, as they’re under the impression that they may be too expensive – bearing in mind the area's worth and reputation. However, that's not entirely correct, and it's well worth taking a second look at the establishments on offer.

Kensington’s Hotels

It’s perfectly true that some Kensington hotels are at the very top of the hotel accommodation tree. They offer wonderful facilities, impeccable customer service and they also occupy some of the best locations in the prestigious Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. So, as you might expect, on the whole their prices will reflect the fact that they are typically not aiming at the budget travel demographic.

Even so, those with less cash to splash should not disregard them altogether. Some of the best hotels offer very attractive deals, often at prices close to those offered by establishments with far inferior facilities in the same locality. There are many reasons why that might be the case, including having some spare capacity they wish to use up or simply because they’re running some loss leaders in order to publicise to a wider clientele base. It's certainly always worth ringing or emailing to see what deals they may or may not have on offer at a given time. In passing, don’t always assume that the prices advertised on their websites are all that’s available. Nothing beats a phone call and a polite enquiry as to whether there are any 'special' offers.

Bed and Breakfast Establishments

Surprisingly, not all Kensington hotels are up-market even though they’re in one of London's most desirable locations. There are fairly significant numbers of much smaller establishments offering budget room and breakfast type deals of a type you may not have thought you’d be able to find in this part of the city.

Some of their prices might be very attractive indeed although, again, as you would expect, the facilities are likely to be more limited and in some cases the surroundings might not be quite as salubrious. Ideally, you should seek out a photograph of the room before you actually book anything. If that’s not possible, do some online research to try and get independent travellers’ reviews of the cheap hotel concerned. Although the vast majority will be fine, some may be a little less than desirable - so make sure you take the time to do a little light research.

Staying Just Outside Kensington

Just a little to the west and over the borough boundary, you'll find parts of London that are not as well known to tourists, which therefore may offer accommodation that's much more budget-oriented. Once again though, try to research the particular hotel’s reputation online or through independent sources if you’d like to avoid a shock upon arrival. Hotels further south and west might not be quite as convenient for some of the major tourist attractions, but if budget is your primary concern, you may be happy enough to live with a slightly longer tube or bus ride to various destinations in the centre of the city.

Book in advance

At the risk of stating the obvious, try to avoid leaving your booking to the last minute. Kensington hotels, whatever sector of the marketplace they’re targeting, are typically in high demand. Leaving your booking to the absolute last minute in an effort to find a bargain might prove risky.
