My teacher is a visiting faculty member in my University of Ohio. For 2 continuous lectures, he was not able to give the lecture. He was living in New York City, was providing visiting lecture in Chicago University, University of Western Texas and University of Ohio. It was the weather that was the main issue. This one example directed my thoughts about the flight delays and what are the reasons, and why the people are affected.

Me, and my friend, started interviewing the frequent travelers and conclude some results that are the part of this article. During this time, we were able to engage 70 travelers and ask them, how the flight delays affected them. Here are their answers:-

  • >> Not able to attend marriage of a family members

  • >> Missed 1st birthday of daughter

  • >> Missed look of first born child

  • >> Lost the job opportunity as not able to give interview

  • >> Lost a business opportunity

  • >> Missed relative funeral

I also asked them, what was the reason provided the flying company, the answers were different but still have fruitful meaning towards the solution. Some of those replies are:-

  1. >> Health of the pilot was not good

  2. >> Technical problems with the jet

  3. >> Fuel was not available at that time

  4. >> Staff was on strike

  5. >> Due to continuous delays from the other flight, they have to reserve the current plane for the previous flights

  6. >> Weather was playing the role( 27.7% answers and highest)

  7. >> They were not provided with the exact reason

Authorities were responsible for the delays in 67.7% cases and there would be no delays, if the authorities has managed the situation properly. You can see the answers(from 1 to 5), they can easily manage those issues on time. At the end, all the delays result in lost valuable time of employees.

Most of the times, you can get the compensation as western countries has the law of paying back upto 90% and if the flight is delayed by at least 3 hours. Flightclaimcompensation authorities provided data to us, showing, how this process takes place. It started with filling case in the court and judge has the authority to provide the compensation.
