Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha. The region is about 3000-year-old. It is commonly referred as the 'City of Temples' and it houses more than 2000 temples. The majority of the temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Mythology says that Bhubaneshwar was one of the loved places of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva even used to spend hours under a huge mango tree. Lingaraj Temple: 180 feet tall, the king of lingas of temple dominates the region. The temple and its lingas also represent the development of temple architecture in Orissa. It is the largest temple in the town. Built in the 11th century, the temple is enriched with sculptures of god and goddesses, and the other mythological stories are also built with too much of perfections. The temple has well preserved the 6th and 7th century Sanskrit script. During the festival the temple looks vibrant. Brahmeshwar Temple: This temple was constructed in the 11th century. Brameshwar is about 60 feet tall. Iron beams are used for buildings the temple. The couple, artist, and dancers appear on the temple panel carvings. The exterior of the temple is mainly enriched with the mythological stories and floral imprints.

Mukhteshwar Temple: Mukhteshwar is the smallest temple and it is only 34 feet tall. The temple has different shrines. Constructed in the Somavasi period this temple denotes the development of different architectures like the assembly hall, the gateway, and the towering shrines. A small well is there outside the gate of the temple, which is believed to cure the infertility of a woman. The temple is full of stories and great past. Mukteshwar is one of the important temples of Bhubaneshwar.

Rajrani Temple: This temple is slightly different from other temples. Rajrani was built as a spot of pleasure for the Oriya king and Queen. So, there is no deity inside the temple. Rajrani is well decorated with amorous sculpture. The place is very relaxing and it is a good experience to witness such structure of the different idea. Entry fee is needed here.

If you move 14 Km east from Bhubaneshwar, Hirapur is the place. It has 64 Yogini Temple. The Yogini Temples has no roofs and the temples structure have some related mythological structures.
