After flying in to Switzerland, getting to the centre is easy with Geneva airport transfers that will take you directly to your hotel or other destination in the city. Once you're there you'll find there are many ways to get around the city, making this an excellent place to visit if you're not travelling with a car. It is easy to get around Geneva: airport transfers, bus passes, taxis and bicycles are all easily accessible and affordable. This article will talk about some of the transportation options in the city.

Getting into town: Geneva Airport Transfers

With very little effort, you can arrange transportation from Geneva airport. Transfers from arrivals and the baggage claim straight to your hotel or other to other destination in the city is a piece of cake with reliable shuttle services. Booking directly to your hotel will save you the trouble of trying immediately to navigate the public transportation system while dragging your luggage in tow.

The Travel Card

Did you know that all visitors staying at hotels, youth hostels, and campsites get a Geneva Travel Card, giving them access to the entire city's transportation network? You can ride the buses, trams, and trains without it costing you a cent, and you can even cross the lake on one of the yellow taxi boats.

This personal travel card is normally offered at your hotel or youth hostel upon arrival, and is for your personal use only (meaning that you can't pass it along to someone else or sell it). It gives you access to the buses and trams (TPG), the yellow boat taxi (Mouettes Genevoises), and the trains (CFF), which all make up the city transport network (UNIRESO).

Using the Transportation Network

It's easy to use the fast and efficient transportation network in the city. There is limited information at every stop in the city, and a larger transportation centre available at the central Cornavin Train Station. You can also get information from the Rive TPG agency located at Rond-Point de Rive, 1204. Timetables and information about the various networks and bus/tram lines can be found online at the UNIRESO website and the TPG website.

Bicycling

Along with the free Travel Card, visitors also have access to free bicycle rentals from April to October from the 'Genève Roule’ Association, at Place de Montbrillant, 17. You can use the bikes for up to four hours, and take advantage of the city's numerous bicycle lanes and pathways through parks and green spaces. For more information, visit their website.

If you'd like more structure to your cycling around this lovely city, with perhaps a bit less physical effort, you can join in one of the electric bicycle tours, which will take you from the city out into the beautiful countryside. Check the eBikeTour website for more details.
