An embedded system course teaches students how to create hardware with embedded systems programming software to create efficiencies and conveniences in electronic devices and appliances.

People wanting to advance their careers in high technology would need to take an embedded system course to study this new emerging technology. Embedded systems are made up of software and hardware elements designed to increase efficiencies and conveniences in electronic devices and appliances. An example of the conveniences is the added features to consumer electronics and appliances. An example of efficiencies is found in manufacturing of automobiles.

Embedded systems are hardware elements that are programmed in advance through their circuitry to provide calculated activities. Customers find the efficiencies and conveniences of embedded systems natural and expected. An embedded system course offers the understanding of how to make devices and appliances operate in a way that is taken for granted because it seemingly provides effectiveness.

An embedded system course is different from the studies normally found in computer science that is strictly software-based or hardware based. To be familiar with today's emerging technologies, an embedded system course is necessary to understand the nature of systems programming and how it is applied to hardware circuitry. Many chips or circuit boards are now programmed physically through the circuitry to provide the automated motions for repetitive functions that helped design manufacturing plant and consumer electronics. Other applications include the electrical conveniences found in automobiles. Many home appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators now have embedded systems that perform functions that their predecessors never had.

An embedded system course is designed as a career enhancer for the technical engineer wanting to expand his career for the long term. Today's computer science, with a focus on just software or just hardware, is not enough. Training of today for computer science is now a hybrid of software and hardware which are embedded systems found in many of today’s technology. The driving force behind the interest in embedded systems comes from new hardware devices and appliances being released each year with innovative programming that goes along with it. The technological advancements that consumers are seeing each year are occurring at a rapid pace and have now become normal. The consumer now expects creative and new innovations each year from different types of appliances and devices.

The trend in hardware innovation includes creativity in the software that is used in the embedded system to create the hardware. Digital electronics now have a major focus on embedded systems that provide efficiencies and conveniences that the business community and consumers expect. The complexities of hardware and software combined to make embedded systems require not only a new skill set but also an understanding of the quality assurance testing necessary to make a product successful. The complexity of an embedded system course requires significant focus and attention. The hard work to complete such a course is worth it because businesses in the high tech arena are seeking graduates. Many businesses also take their existing employees and send them to take an embedded system course to bring their skill level up to the current needs.
