Things to Consider While Planning a Bike Trip
Posted: Jan 11, 2016
A motorcycle trip in India is extremely adventurous and full of fun. But believe it or not, planning for it is more exciting. Packing bags, wearing biking gear, getting a grip on the machine and setting out on the road holds a promise – an indescribable feeling, which adds to your enthusiasm.
So that nothing dampens this enthusiasm, have a glance at some basic planning you’ll need to do so that you can make the most of your trip and avoid many of the mistakes that can halt your bike trail.
SELECT THE RIGHT GEAR
Selecting appropriate riding gear is the most important thing you need to do before planning a bike trip. Good quality gear should include the right riding pants, boots, riding jacket and of course a full face helmet. From the feeling of convenience to the feeling of confidence – it’s the gear that makes all the difference. So before you go shopping, make sure you spend a minute on The Junction of Trails of India for suggestions on the best brands for biking gear.
PICK THE RIGHT PARTNER
The road is longer than you think. Two to three hours of continuous riding is not a big deal, but anything more feels like an eternity. Moreover, breakdowns and fitness problems add to time lags. That’s why it is always recommended to pick the right partner for your ride. Ideally someone who knows about bikes, the route and if possible, the people along the route.
SOME ESSENTIAL BASICS
Just like you pick the right partner, you need to be judicious about picking the other stuff as well. Generally, you don’t need half the stuff you think you’ll need. It’s never easy to carry bundles over a thousand miles. You end up making your bike heavy and difficult to manage on rough tracks. Some basic but essential things you should take with you on your journey include an extra pair of riding gloves, ear plugs, a paper map, a well-stocked tool kit, cash, battery pack, headlamp, and a good tent.
Apart from checking off this list, embracing a little technology can probably make your ride even better. For example, a helmet equipped with bluetooth can hook up with your phone and help you receive calls, follow GPS directions and even play your favourite music.
FOOD AND WATER
You’re going to be hungry and you’ll have to deal with it. So make sure you carry enough food and water supplies to last the entire trip. Try to keep the food you bring along properly packed and easy to carry. To stay hydrated, invest in a hydration pack - which is a water bottle in a bag with a tube - which you can sling over your shoulder and drink water from.
