St. Nicholas Abbey: St.Nicholas Abbey is located in the parish of St. Peter. Built in 1658, it is one of the oldest buildings on the island and also one of only three genuine Jacobean style mansions in the Western Hemisphere. Barbados boasts of two of these mansions – St.Nicholas Abbey and Drax Hall.
The well-preserved mansion remains furnished as it was 400 years ago with striking antiques from the late 18th century and the early 19th century. It also boasts of many distinguishing features such as the curved Dutch gables, cedar panelling, chimney stacks, coral stone finials and a Chinese Chippendale staircase.
Take a guided tour through the magnificent house to get a glimpse of the impressive architecture and beautiful historical furnishings.
Animal Flower Cave: Located under the North Point cliffs in the parish of St. Lucy, Animal Flower Cave is named after the sea anemones found in the pools of the cave. The cave walls are full of amazing formations coloured in different hues and shades by oxidation of copper and iron. This spectacular cave opens directly into the Atlantic Ocean and offers breathtaking views of the beautiful blue waters.
Andromeda Botanic Gardens: The garden which sprawls across 6 acres contains several varieties of plant life. As you journey through this horticulture delight, you will experience an incredible form of nature with a wide collection of unique trees and a range of flora.
Garrison Savannah Racetrack: This horse racing venue within the Garrison Historic Area is recognised internationally for hosting the annual Barbados Gold Cup and the annual Barbados Triple Crown. However, you do not need to be a horse racing enthusiast to enjoy this sport. The beautiful surroundings and a range of other fun activities and games are there to keep you engaged.
