There is a lack of understanding in the service industry when it comes to GPS vehicle tracking. Many business owners think the systems are too complicated to use or they aren’t dependable enough to use every day. These business owners don’t understand the benefits of a GPS vehicle tracking system or that these systems can bring in more business quickly and easily.By offering more effective dispatching, more efficient routing and more accurate invoices, there will be less back and forth between drivers and dispatchers and more customers can be serviced.

Let's take a look at how a plumbing business without GPS vehicle tracking might handle a service call:

A homeowner whose basement is flooded calls the first plumber that shows up on her Google search, Plumber #1. She lives in a part of town full of new developments and neighborhoods that are unfamiliar to many service businesses. As she relays this information to the dispatcher the plumber she called, the dispatcher sees that the address is on the other side of town and promises to call the panicked homeowner right back and let her know how soon a plumber can be there. The dispatcher begins calling all of her plumbers in the field finding out that they are all still working on projects and are quite a distance from the homeowner’s address. Almost an hour has gone by when one of her plumbers calls in to let her know that he has finished up a job and is almost back to the shop. The dispatcher finds out that the job was only three blocks away from the panicked homeowner’s neighborhood. The dispatcher directs him back out to the field and towards the homeowner’s address. She contacts the homeowner to let her know that help is on the way only to learn that the homeowner already contacted another plumber who could be there sooner, Plumber #2. Without a GPS vehicle tracking system, Plumber #1 lost business and wasted a lot of time and fuel.

Now let’s take a look at the plumber who got the business:

Plumber #2 gets a call from a homeowner who has a flooded basement. While the homeowner is on the phone with the plumbing service, the dispatcher, using her GPS vehicle tracking software, is already looking at her screen to see where her plumbers are and finds one that is just minutes away from the caller. She dispatches that plumber who arrives quickly to help the homeowner and repair their broken pipe. By using the GPS tracking software, the dispatcher was able to find a plumber close to the homeowner and send Plumber #2 directions to the homeowner’s address so he could arrive quickly and win the homeowner’s business. How did GPS vehicle tracking benefit Plumber #2? It saved them time, money and routed a plumber to the right address in just minutes.
