The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is on its last day. And this is the third final part of the series on the coolest tech from this year’s wireless and mobile technology event.
LG G5
Apart from the rolling ball unveiled at the show, LG had a modular surprise for everyone attending the MWC. The LG G5, a direct competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy S7, is a modular phone with add-ons to supercharge the phone with extra features. Such add-ons include the LG CAM Plus with a better grip and buttons for shutter, record, power and zoom, and the LG Hi-Fi Plus which is basically a 32-bit DAC and amp to convert the phone into a high-quality speaker.
Apart from its modular nature, the phone sports a 5.3 inch qHD display, a 16MP primary camera lens with an 8MP secondary wide angle lends with optical image stabilization, 4K video and laser autofocus. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor, has 4GB of RAM, 32GB expandable storage and runs Android Marshmallow with a 2800 mAh battery.
Huawei MateBook
Apparently, the Surface line of laptop-cum-tablets aren’t enough for the world. Huawei’s 12-inch tablet with keyboard, the MateBook, is the company’s entry into the new market in which tablets can be converted into a laptop computer with keyboard. The device comes pre-installed with Windows 10 and packs a 9 hour battery life, 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD hard disk, and is powered by the Intel Core M processor. The price starts at $699 and includes the keyboard, unlike the Surface and Surface Pro.
Along with the offering, the company is offering a stylus, called the MatePen, which works as a remote for presentations and a laser pointer.
Xiaomi Mi5
Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi’s much-awaited Mi5 is finally here. The 5.1-inch phone is powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor, packs 4GB of RAM, a 16MP rear camera with advanced image stabilization, 3000 mAh of battery and a fingerprint sensor. Pricing is expected to start from $260-$350.
Starship Drone
Imagine expecting a delivery boy at the door when you ordered pizza, however, you end up finding a robot instead. Starship Technologies, an Estonian startup by Skype co-founders Janus Friis and Ahti Heinla, has invented a delivery robot that intends to replace humans when delivering groceries, medicine and other small packages. The drone can carry a load of about 18kg and can operate at 6.4km/h.
The aim is to build an autonomous fleet of robots that operate only on sidewalks and do not affect traffic in any way whatsoever. Plus, with 9 cameras, how can this go wrong?
