Different Kinds of SCADA Systems

Nowadays automated environments are created with the help of process control. It is in wide usage in factories as well where systems need to be kept running in an efficient manner. When we talk of process control technology, it is usually with reference to monitoring of sensors and adjusting the different variables as per readings. If there are complex operations as spread across factories this technology helps to manage the dame by a small group of people. For these reasons software SCADA has come in vogue.

SCADA as an instance of process control

When we talk of process control and the technology associated with it, these are mainly of four kinds and each differing capabilities. The simple form of automation which is found in free software SCADA usually includes a single loop of process control. Basic controllers lead to the activation and deactivation of processes. This happens in a predictable and linear manner. In case of single loop systems the simple electronic relays are one example. In this kind of process control parts move through different stages, akin to an assembly line procedure or technology, which occurs from start to finish of a project. The cycle loop in this instance does not include much variation.

Sequence controllers

The other instance of process control systems is the inclusion of sequence controllers. This allows adjustment or redirection of the automated cycle. When we talk of programmable logic controller, it is used in this kind of a control system. These are systems or devices used to trigger different sequences as well as monitor sensors. The operations might lie outside the automated cycle as well. For instance, if a product is found defective, it might be re routed through an assembly line for inspection in different areas. This is an example, SCADA software which includes controllers for adjustments.

Distributed control systems

Among SCADA software there are distributed control systems which control and monitor the complicated processes. The sequence controller allows modification of the automated sequence at a single location while a DCS allows the same to be controlled from different branches or variations of a single process. In a distributed control system it is possible to stop as well as start an assembly line. Products can be redirected to different locations and speed of assembly line can be varied as well. There are several kinds of variables that can be adjusted in a distributed control system.

Complex procedures

SCADA software can be used effectively to establish a complex setup for process control. Usually in large factories in this kind of system is in vogue.
