There are various ideas for Christmas interior design in homes. Interior Christmas design is a vital part of holiday festivities and for many people, the furnishings, wall colors and decor all define the holiday season.

Your home feels warm with proper holiday interior design. If you have kids in your home, you can begin by creating a diorama of dolls and bears. Minus the kids, these are also great accessories that you can add to your holiday home.

Create bows using Christmas print ribbons. Place them throughout your home including the tie-backs on your curtains. Third, hang the usual stockings on doors; these offer a festive feeling to any home.

If you are the traditional type, you probably think about reds and greens as a color scheme for Christmas. But today’s interior designers think otherwise. Although these two colors still comprise a huge part of holiday designs, there are now more options for homeowners. With the right color combinations, your home and your Christmas tree are sure to look lovelier this season.

Choosing a Color Scheme That Works

There are many ways that you can determine the right color scheme for your home. Focus on the colors which you already have in your home – all year round. Pick complementary colors which bring out the holiday feeling.

If you have particular holiday memories as a child, then choose a color scheme based on those. If you focused on the white Christmas tree that your mom adorned with colorful balls then use that color to enhance that wonderful memory. Another childhood memory that can serve a nice purpose this season is to think of the hues that were in your home as a child. If your home had reds and golds rather than silver or icy white colors, then go for the former shades. Keep with the homey feeling in your childhood habitat for a more harmonious design.

Are beaded fruits your idea of a great motif? Then you can make use of jewel tones on all your interior design aspects. Are earthy, rustic designs your cup of tea? Then stick to lovely golds, greens and shades of brown.

Look for fabrics that will look great on your dining room table. You can then center your Christmas colors based on that fabric design. Bring different hues that complement the fabric so that you can achieve a more unified look.

You can also find great Christmas designs from books and magazines. These may be staged by interior designers but you can make use of these ideas to bring color and designs into your own home.

In choosing color combinations, keep in mind that many colors of similar intensity and depth will blend well. Pastels, for instance, will easily mix with other equally light colors. The deep, jewel tones such as hunter green, navy blue or deep red will also complement one another.

If you still do not know which colors to pair, here are some ideas that will jump start your Christmas color scheme –

  • White and any color
  • Silver, blue and white
  • Red and white
  • All white
  • Gold and any other color
  • Brushed gold and ivory
  • Pewter, Ivory and Sage Green
  • Blue, green and bright purple
  • Beige, yellow and rust
  • Gold, burgundy and Forest Green
  • Silver, lilac and Icy blue

You do not have to be a fan of red just to stage a holiday home. Find verdant shades of Christmas trees – from all green shades such as apple to forest – then pair them with different sheens from shiny to matte.

  • Heard Maria from The Sound of Music? She sang brown paper packages tied up with strings...replace the brown strings with red and white baker’s twine and you have achieved a design that represents Santa Claus’ classic suit colors.
These are the modern times so you have to think out of the box in terms of Christmas interior design – make sure to begin this season.
