Battle Of Giants Like Keith Wright Or Clyde Williams For The Seat Vacated By Charles Rangel In 2016

The Democratic Party primaries for 13th NY district is very near now and there is hardly three months left for the same. A battle of giants is in the offing for filling out the seat vacated by Charles Rangel. But at the same time besides the Golliaths there are also tiny looking Davids in the contest who have the potential to beat the giants. It remains to be seen what the electorate have in store for these candidates and whether they are going to support one of the stalwarts like Clyde Williams 2016, Keith Wright, or Robert Rodriguez or they are opting to select someone fresh like Mike Gallagher, Tom Evans, Martin Chicon or a woman candidate Suzan Johnson Cook.

Common Support for Candidates

For stalwarts there is common support from various sectors of the electorate. For instance; both Keith Wright Assemblyman as well as Robert Rodriguez have the support of the African American communities. While Robert Rodriguez Assemblyman is Latino by origin he has been working for the African Americans and therefore expects the support. But Keith is African American by origin and hopes to get the support of the ethnic group. It is not clear however whether Rodriguez would be in the contest as he is not one of the officially declared candidates.

Cause Behind Support

Robert Rodriguez Assemblyman considered to get the African American support because the same had gone in favor of the losing candidate Adriano Espaillat in the 2012 and 2014 primaries when he lost narrowly to Charles Rangel. Keith Wright Assemblyman expects the support because he also expects to be officially endorsed by Charles Rangel. It is probable that the people supporting Rangel earlier will vote for Wright and this could be the winning factor for him. Also recently Rangel has announced that he will be actively involved in the primaries though not contesting and he supports Keith Wright to succeed him as the right successor.

Other Candidates Also Count

Ultimately it turned out that neither Rangel nor Rodriguez is going to contest the 2016 primaries for 13th NY district. But there are other stalwarts like Clyde Williams 2016 who is going to contest it. Another candidate of reckoning is Adam Clayton Powel. Both these candidates have the potential to upturn the carts of other contesting candidates. No less potential candidates with their unique and though provoking manifestoes are Suzan Cook and Mike Gallagher. According to latest surveys the contest may be concentrated between these five and others may not count much.

Rangel’s Support Might Count

One of the important factors in the upcoming primary could be the support extended by Charles Rangel to Keith Wright and that could put into problem the aspirations of other candidates like Powel, Espaillat, and Clyde Williams 2016. Though Rangel has not officially endorsed any candidate, his support for Wright as the possible successor is well known.

One cannot overlook Gallagher either as he has a fat manifesto that contains many valuable suggestions for overcoming the various problems currently faced by the people in the area.
