A Walking Holiday in Enchanting Croatia
Posted: Dec 18, 2013
Walking holidays give us a special peek into a country’s most beautiful natural and historical sights. For those who love nature, history and architecture, walking in Croatia will give you the perfect dose of all this and more. You will also get the chance to try out traditional food and experience the warm hospitality of this amazing country.
Dubrovnik - a spectacular destination
The best time to visit Croatia is probably spring and autumn, when temperatures are just nice. Most people arrive into the delightful city of Dubrovnik with the opportunity to explore the countryside area of Konavle. No holiday walking in Croatia would be complete without spending at least a few days in Dubrovnik and this quaint but fascinating town is rich in cultural history. Enjoy some of the local cuisine or explore some of the markets and purchase some souvenirs for your loved ones back home. Wander the streets and get lost in the ancient ambience before heading out into the rural areas.
Konavle and beyond
There are some excellent hiking trails in Konavle for you to navigate, with paths that take you past scenic cliffs, enchanting forests, vineyards and vast fields. You can stop along the way in picturesque villages to shop, eat and rest as you traverse the paths parallel to the sea.
Your holiday walking in Croatia may also take you on a hike to the highest peak in the Dubrovnik region, known as Mount Snjeznica. Enjoy a relaxing lunch up in the mountains, where you can refresh and rejuvenate before the easier trip down.
You will also have the opportunity to discover the island of Sipan while you are here. A fishermen’s island dating back to ancient times, you can still see many of the buildings and monuments, churches and castles from that era. Rich in Mediterranean vegetation and low in traffic, this is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely walk.
Next, you can explore the enchanting Lopud and Elaphite islands. Enjoy a wander through the narrow village pathways, lush woods and picturesque valleys. Along the way you will encounter cypress, lemon, orange and pine trees along the way, which is classic Mediterranean and sub-tropical vegetation.
A holiday walking in Croatia will expose you to the authentic local culture and immerse you in the way of life. You will return not only with wonderful memories, but possibly a desire to return for further exploration of this spectacular and under rated country.
