Thus, it is of utmost importance that you employ caution and guard against some mistakes.

Here are five mistakes that you should avoid while taking a yoga course:

Do not enrol in any mushrooming organisation: With increasing popularity of yoga, many mushrooming organisations just popped up for yoga courses. However, most of these organisations lack skilled trainers and instructors for teaching yoga. Thus, by enrolling in these institutions, you’ll not get any proper instructions, but moreover, there are chances of being misguided by ignorant trainers. To avoid this scenario, do your research before enrolling in any course. Make sure that the instructors have proper training and the organisation have some authenticity.

Do not reach your class with a full stomach: Well, going to your class in a full stomach will only make you unable to perform the yoga poses correctly. Also immediately after eating, you blood flow gets directed to your stomach, to receive nutrients. Lack of blood flow to the muscles will leave you weak and will make it difficult for you to perform. Have a light snack or eat at least one and a half hour before the class to avoid this.

Do not push yourself too hard: Well, everyone tries to do the best. But yoga is unlike any other form of exercise. Here pushing yourself too hard to perform those difficult poses at one go will do more harm than good. Focus on your breathing to understand your limits. When your breathing is too strained, you are pushing it too hard. Regular practice with awareness is the key to success when it comes to yoga.

Do not choose your classes incorrectly: If you are enrolling in yoga course for the first time, then no matter how fit and flexible you are, enrol in a beginners’ level course. Yoga is way more than just flexing your muscles. Thus, lack of fundamental knowledge can prove to be quite harmful.

Do not hold your breath: Breathing with awareness is one of the core principles of yoga. However, more often than not, beginners focus on the perfect pose and in the process hold their breath. This is the most harmful thing you can do while practicing yoga. Instead of focusing on perfect posture which will come with practice, focus on proper breathing.

So, these are the five mistakes you should guard against while taking yoga courses in India. Avoid these and you’ll soon start enjoying your classes more than you could have thought.
