Ideal Capsicum Cultivation Methods

Conduct Capsicusm cultivation and a host of other crops in evenly controlled poly house. Among the capsicum there are 2 varieties, namely, Green pepper and the colorful Red and Yellow pepper, which is also known as the Bell pepper. Capsicum a rich source of Vitamin A & C, though, is a seasonal vegetable, but with the help of poly house cultivation can be easily produced round the year.

Polyhouse cultivation not just supports capsicum, but also supports Carnation cultivation in polyhouse and Gerbera cultivation in poly house and various other vegetables and fruits. Production of capsicum is gaining due to heavy demand for the product round the year in metro and in both tier I and II cities.

Ideally Capsicum cultivation requires a temperature less than or between 25° C to 30° C, as capsicum is a cool season crop. A set of rules one should keep in mind while cultivating the crop are, firstly, seeds used for the plantation of the crop must be disease free and healthy. Another important thing that one should take into account is that the age of the seedling should at least 35 to 40 days old. One should also take note of the fact that the seedling of capsicum must have at least 4 to 6 leaves on the stem and that the length of the stem should be around 16 to 20 cm.

It is beneficial to use poly house for capsicum cultivation as they produce better crop yield and enable farmers to produce capsicum at highly effective prices and also fetch better returns as the crop is healthy and disease free. It is the properties of the poly house such as energy efficiency, controlling humidity, light, temperature and the level of carbon dioxide helps in better crop yield.

Poly houses are of two types one are the low cost type and high quality galvanized poly houses. The tubular structure of the poly house is made of the pre Galvanized steel and is then covered with transparent fiber sheets. In case of low cost poly house the structure can be made of Rods, Bamboo, or timber etc.
