Why Organizations Should Recycle Scrap Metal
Posted: Apr 28, 2016
The manufacturing process generates a lot of scrap materials. A skrotfirma can purchase this material and recycle it so that it can be used for other purposes. Not only is this good for the environment it is also generates money for the organization where the scrap originates.
Scrap is a term used to describe the material that is left over from the manufacturing process. Scrap can also be a result of consumption. An empty can of soda is an example of scrap created through consumption. The difference between scrap and waste is that scrap has monetary value. The most common type of scrap that organizations have to deal with is metal, primarily steel (alliedrecyclingcenterinc.com, DISTINGUISHING DIFFERENT TYPES OF SCRAP METAL, 2015). Steel is used extensively in manufacturing, construction and infrastructure. It plays a key role in economic development.
According to the World Steel Association, crude steel production increased by 1% globally between 2010 and 2014; the use of scrap steel in the European Union also increased by 1% during the same period. The European Union was the largest exporter of steel scrap in 2014 (recyclingtoday.com, BIR RELEASES SIXTH EDITION OF 'WORLD STEEL RECYCLING IN FIGURES', 2015). There are several benefits to skrotåtervinning. Some of these benefits are mentioned below:
Monetization
Scrap is generated in most manufacturing processes. The material left over cannot be used in its current state by the organization. In large scale production process the amount of scrap generated is significant. Many organizations simply dump the scrap material. Organizations can monetize their scrap metal by selling it to a skrotfirma. Stainless steel can go for as much as £0.47 for a kg (recycling.about.com, CURRENT SCRAP PRICES EUROPE, 2016). Scrap can act as a supplemental source of income for organizations.
Environment
The process of mining iron ore, purifying it and shaping it for industrial use as stainless steel is an environmentally taxing process. It creates a lot of toxic waste and consumes a large amount of water. The use of recycled steel will reduce the amount of green house gas emissions. Recycling also decreases the amount of waste produced due to mining and a less amount of water is consumed.
Resource Conservation
Businesses today are more environmentally conscious. This is why sustainable development has become a big concern for organizations and governments. Sustainable development means development that is achieved without depleting natural resources or compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Using recycled material will help conserve the finite resources of metal on the planet, for example recycling one ton of aluminum can help conserve up to 5 tons of bauxite (reconmetal.com, WHY RECYCLE YOUR METAL, 2013).
Most organization in the EU recycle scrap metal including businesses in Sweden. Organizations that are looking for a återvinningsföretag i Stockholm, should contact Lantz Järn & Metall AB.
