Distilled Alcohol And Its History

We all have consumed alcohol at some point or other. It might be from a chocolate or in pure form or in booze with friends. But have we ever thought about the making process that took place in the evolution of the present alcohol we consume? Like other substances, distilled alcohol has a peculiar history in particular. A distilling alcohol is produced from the alcoholic fermentation of fruits. Higher the content of alcohol, the higher is the level of intoxication. In some countries, hard alcohol means the higher content of alcohol and less content of diluting substance like water. Beer or wine contains less amount of alcohol content of about less than 15%. But whisky, rum, vodka has more than 35% amount of alcohol content in it.

History Behind It

Alcohol was produced from the medieval ages. But the distilled alcohol term came at a much later stage. It was not until the 1st century that the Greeks invented the term distilled water. They gave an all together different aspects of alcohol. In Alexandria, the Greek alchemists helped in the evolution of this kind of alcohol from fermentation. At the same time, the Chinese were also about to make experiments for distilled substances. But there is no exact proof of that. Later in the 12th century, the term distilling alcohol came to existence. In the 14th century, brandy was discovered which was called as burning water due to its burning property. After that, many such inventions took place in various parts across the globe. People started getting distilled alcohol from wheat, barley and rye. This evolution led to be the deciding factor for the national drinks for various countries like Bourbon in United States and Gin in England. Presently, they are used in perfumery where essential oil extraction takes place. Then it is combined with vodka to get the scent.

Health Concerns

Where there is alcohol, there are concerns about health and health related problems. Distilled alcohol contains some amount of ethanol in it. Ethanol can affect the body on a short term or long basis. In the perfumes, there is essential oil extraction which needs ethanol in it. This also affects health as a short term basis. Over consumption of alcohol also has an effect on the body. High dose of alcohol leads to brain related problems. Not only, are they fatal to the brain, but also the heart. It decreases individual life by 10 years. They mentally disable the brain functionalities. It might lead to accidents if the vehicle is driven with a heavy dose of alcohol in blood. Alcohol has been related to problems to high blood pressure, heart stroke, diabetes, etc. Addiction to alcohol can result in mental disorders in a person. Then, corrective measures should be taken before consuming alcohol.
