Dresses to Wear to Nashville Events in May
Posted: Apr 29, 2016
For May’s What to Wear feature, we’ve gone in a new direction. Instead of showcasing mannequins wearing current looks for events in town, we’ve partnered with Landyn Hutchinson to be our model, showing fashions from four local boutiques. Landyn’s blog, livingwithlandyn.com, is all about approachable style: from recipes, to fashion, to home decor and doing it all while keeping your sanity as a busy woman and mom.
May brings a bevy of events — from the 75th Iroquois Steeplechase to Mother’s Day, graduations, weddings and even backyard parties for Memorial Day weekend. Many of these require a dress … at least that’s the easiest thing for an effortless, polished look. Wardrobe consultant Rebecca Thompson gathered dresses for all of these events fromSOCA, MODA and K. McCarthy. And, as Steeplechase pretty much requires a hat, she also grabbed some gorgeous ones from Stacey Rhodes Boutique.
The makeup used for this What to Wear story is from the just-launched Spring 2016 Therapy Systems collection.
We shot on location at Hester & Cook in Berry Hill. All images are by the amazing photographer Tina Gionis.
(SB note: Landyn is 5 feet 8 inches tall. Thus, many of these dresses would be just above the knee on an average-height woman, which is considered 5 feet 4 inches!)
What to Wear in Nashville: May 2016
Here’s Landyn outside Hester & Cook with a dress found at MODA for $94. It’s breezy with an attached long tank-style slip and flow-y overpiece. Perfect to dress up or down to take you from a Mother’s Day brunch to a backyard BBQ.
Green provides a great pop of color that is flattering on many. This easy-to-wear dress with an intricate neckline means you don’t even need to worry about a necklace! Found at K. McCarthyfor $268, this is great for weddings, graduations and Steeplechase (but add a hat for the races!). That gold bracelet is pretty sweet, so keep your eyes peeled for that as well!
The hemline and flouncy nature of this dress make it look great while standing still or walking. It’s a macrame knit and comes with the belt. Find this dress (and look for the great statement necklace, too!) at SOCA for $129. Again, this is great for Steeplechase (with a hat) or for an evening get-together. Add a shorter denim jacket or even a leather jacket if the night has a chill.
This dress is that perfect in-between dress when the occasion is somewhat dressy to somewhat casual. You know, SO MANY EVENTS! Find this dress at MODA for $120.
Here is a wrap dress that lends itself to more casual affairs. Landyn hammed it up with some of Hester & Cook’s great cookware! I mean, if a whisk and a bowl are on hand, it’s hard not to pick them up (especially when the bowl flatters your dress!). Find this dress at MODA for $135.
K. McCarthy for $298. This dress has endless possibilities with layered jewelry, scarves or as just said, cardigans and jackets." width="620" height="709" align="" border="1">Suede is in for spring and summer, and this dress fits the trend nicely. If you don’t like your arms, add a cardigan or jacket and belt it! This dress (and the great necklace) can be found at K. McCarthy for $298. This dress has endless possibilities with layered jewelry, scarves or as just said, cardigans and jackets.

This dark blue and white dress is found at SOCA for $59.50, and it’s the shortest hemline featured today. It has a sheath-like style with a flow-y top piece that makes the dress less body-conscious and beautiful, especially when walking or when the wind blows. Rebecca paired this dress on Landyn with a fabulous hat from Stacey Rhodes Boutique, $179. And, the owners of Hester & Cook have some fabulous older cars and brought one for us to use for this shoot. Isn’t it fabulous?!
