The Perks of being a Wallflower: A must-watch

We accept the love we think we deserve.

Sigh! It holds a deep meaning if you read it twice. This line is the famous tagline from the movie ‘The Perks of being a Wallflower’. As meaningful as this tagline is, the movie does give you some light and cosy moments. This English movie is based on the popular novel of the same name by Stephan Chbosky.

The movie is about a guy named Charlie who always confides everything in his diary. Being a mentally ill chap, he finds himself a little misfit in the real world. Meanwhile he meets his two seniors, Sam and her stepbrother Patrick, who introduce him to the real world. Also, there is Mr. Anderson, his English teacher, with whom he connects very well.

Sam finds out that Charlie has no friends at all and that’s when she makes him a part of the island of misfit toys. It’s kind of sad when you go into all the gory detail of Charlie’s past; also at the same it’s very refreshing to see him connect to the worldy affairs.

The most amazing thing about this movie is the amazing list of songs that they have used. Be it The Beatles or Pink Floyd or any other 90’s music, every great song is in this movie. So, if you want to relive those 90’s days- the fashion, the music, et al- do watch this movie.

The best one is the tunnel song aka ‘Heroes’ by David Bowie. ‘We can be heroes, just for one day.’ The whole essence of the movie lies there. Also the amazing line by Charlie: ‘This one moment when you know you're not a sad story. You are alive, and you stand up and see the lights on the buildings and everything that makes you wonder. And you're listening to that song and that drive with the people you love most in this world. And in this moment I swear, we are infinite.’ It would be the favourite of many.

All the stars have totally embraced their characters. Logan Lerman seemed to be a total pro as Charlie. It was a tough role but he kicked it off. Emma Watson was also lively in the character of Sam. If you look at it, she was the best choice for this role. Ezra Miller also didn’t fail to create an influence as Patrick. A complete misfit is what he portrays the best.

This coming-of-age movie is a touching one that generates a myriad of emotions- the emotions of love, sadness, happiness and anger... all at the same time. This drama movie is a must-watch for all those who consider themselves a misfit in the world. Actually it’s a must-watch for all those who have faced the complexities of the adolescence.

Hope you love it!
