Don’t believe what "they" say; there is no dearth of haulage jobs. Sure there may be more and more people going for the same business as you– after all, people seem to be discovering the advantages and benefits of going into the delivery industry. The hours, the freedom, the control, the pay - no wonder there’s getting to be a lot of competition for what you consider the best job in the world! However, there are certainly no fewer jobs - there are just many more hauliers. Nowadays, you just have to be smarter and faster than the others. So, the all-important question is - where do you find haulage jobs? It’s easy as long as you keep your eyes and ears open– where there’s business, there’s always something for you. Here are a few places to look for your customers and, as long as you get the job done well, who knows, you might even find your regular customers for life.A construction companyWhere there’s a lot of construction, there are bound to be haulage jobs. Fact. Moving loads of materials, appliances, furniture and the like requires hauliers, and the more the merrier. Remodelling and rehabilitation sites in particular need many large, bulky objects such as old furniture, appliances and materials removed from the site, which are jobs you can bid for directly. What’s more, they can put you in touch with their suppliers who may also need delivery services - such as their brick, wood, steel, appliances and furniture vendors. Your neighbourhood home depot and hardware store may come up with a few friendly recommendations as well. Word of mouth never hurt anyone. The Produce MarketWhen it comes to haulage jobs fruits and vegetables will always have a (pardon the pun) market. And while they’re in business, so will you be. In fact, it’s not just fruits and vegetables you’ll find in the market; grains, spices and everything else - you know perfectly well that they didn’t walk on their own. They had to be delivered to get where they are, and next time, the one making those deliveries could be you.You will have to wake up pretty early in the morning to scout out the potential customers or customers’ leads. Ask around the market, get business cards of their suppliers and make some calls. A word of advice: some goods will perhaps need specialized trucks although most hardy produce does not require refrigerated trucks to transport it.Catered PartiesNext time you go to a party, pay some mind to the caterers – who knows, they could be feeding you for years to come. Caterers always require delivery drivers, not just for the food but for the chairs, tables, flower arrangements and other equipment and supplies. Pick a time when the caterer isn’t busy and introduce yourself. Better yet, give them a phone-side memo pad with a complimentary pen - they’ll keep you in mind when they have big gigs that will require help.Right At Home (Or Your Truck) Of course, you’ll most likely have figured out by now there are plenty of haulage jobs out there. Check out job exchanges on the Internet and sign up for the ones that seem really busy – then start reaping the rewards.
