Martin LeFevre - An Early Professional Crossroads
Posted: May 07, 2016
- We all fear growing up a little bit. This is especially true if you’re fortunate to go to college. Martin LeFevre had to make a tough choice as a high school athlete headed to college. LeFevre grew up in rural Illinois, the youngest of four siblings. He spent his summer afternoons swimming in the Rock River or in the backyard swimming pool his parents set up for him and his brothers and sister. He also practiced his soccer skills and jogged regularly to stay in shape not only for soccer season, but also for track season. He played on both the track and soccer teams at Dixon High School in nearby Dixon, Illinois. He was talented in both sports. He was a part of the Dixon High School soccer team that won the Illinois High School Athletics Class A Sectional Championships in 1999, the best result from the soccer team in school history. Martin LeFevre was a key player on the team that went 22-3-2, allowed only 20 goals all season, and scored 110. He was also an excellent track participant as well, placing highly in events like the high jump, long jump, triple jump, and the 1600-meter relay. His success as a high school athlete opened doors for him at the next level, but he had to make a tough choice after he graduated from Dixon High School.
Martin LeFevre was offered a scholarship to the small Doane College in Crete, Nebraska for the men’s soccer team. He had a tough choice to make. Of course LeFevre wanted to play soccer at the next level, but he also wanted to think about his career and his life after college. After much deliberation, he decided to hang up his cleats and attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale instead. It was a difficult decision, but it allowed him to enter a rewarding and lucrative profession, accounting. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting in 2005, he worked at several accounting firms in both Illinois and Florida, helping clients and businesses solve their budget issues and prepare for future success.
Martin LeFevre has helped many clients since earning his degree from Southern Illinois and completing his training as an Accountant and he doesn’t regret his decision to pass up the scholarship to Doane College. He still plays a little soccer when he can, however, just to shake the cobwebs and the dust off.
