Spring means new beginnings. It also means it’s time to get out and tackle those home improvement projects that you’ve been putting off all winter. Spring is a great time to turn your attention to getting your home ready for the summer and making it more attractive and more functional. Here are five great home improvement projects that won’t take too long that are ideal for springtime.

Declutter

Before you can go about spring cleaning and interior decorating, you’ve got to give yourself some roof to work. That means you need to do some decluttering. In order to not be overwhelmed, tackle one or two rooms per day and only focus on those rooms. If you try to declutter your entire home in a single day you’ll get burned out. Go through everything and make three piles: stuff to keep, stuff to donate, and stuff to throw away. The trash pile is easiest. It’s harder to decide what to donate. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, "Have I used this in the last year?" If the answer is "no," chances are you can part with it.

Spring cleaning

With the decluttering done, you can turn your attention to spring cleaning. Some household chores like doing the dishes, are done just about every day. Others, like sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, you might do once every few days. Spring cleaning is the time to do those chores that are ignored for most of the year like cleaning the windows and blinds, dusting those hard-to-reach places, and washing the doors and baseboards. Just as with decluttering, focus on room a day to avoid burn out and really try to get a deep clean.

Bring your deck back to life

If you’ve got a deck in your backyard, chances are it’s been unused and neglected all winter. It’s time to bring it back to life in time to be used for summer barbecues and parties. You may need to replace any boards that have become warped or splintered. It wouldn’t hurt to have your deck refinished it that’s in your budget.

A fresh coat of paint

Spring is a great time to repaint your home’s interior because the weather is warmer and you can open all the doors and windows to let in fresh air while you work. You might be surprised at the difference a fresh coat of paint makes. Walls get marks and dents at such a slow rate that we tend not to notice how unattractive they’ve become until we repaint and see the difference.

Make room for fresh flowers

There’s no better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than with some fresh flowers. It can give any space that fresh, natural look plus they give off a pleasant scent. Flowers don’t just have to be outside. In fact, even if you’re in an apartment and don’t have a yard, you can use fresh flowers by bringing them inside. Place a table near a window and put a plant of some kind on it or hang some potted plants from the ceiling.
