Getting in better shape needs a lot more than empty promises to self and then abandoning the notion.

"I don't have time for it."

World's no.1 and the most lamest excuse people give for not doing exercise. Often we find ourselves juggling multiple responsibilities and priorities which keep ourselves occupied for most of the day. But squeezing out a few minutes as small as 10 might sound like an exorbitant demand our body is making.

But the fact is that your body needs your time too. And spending few minutes might not cost you much. In fact, a new study published by The Lancet found that if inactive people increased their physical activity by just 15 minutes per day, they could reduce their risk of premature death by 14% and increase their life expectancy by three years. Isn't it a great motivation? Well working out might not always equate to spending hours in gyms, although it does have its own benefits (who doesn't want perfect abs like celebrities). Simple burst of exercises which might take not more than 15-20 minutes of your time can also do wonders.

If you found yourself convinced enough, here are few tips to make time for indulging in some exercises and stop giving yourself excuses:

Rise early

Working out in the morning has its benefits. Apart from boosting your energy levels and regulating your erratic appetite levels, it also help you start your day efficiently and in good mood.

Do you find it not appealing? Seriously, but then how many times in the day you do have the purest of intentions of indulging in some stretches (apart from the time your back aches and you find lack of flexibility in bones). Working late, playing with kids or spending time with family; there could be numerous reasons which can keep your evening workout plans at bay.

Chop down your Media time

Do you have any idea how much time are your spending on TV or internet or just slaying those ninjas on your smart phones?

A simple audit of your daily routine for a day or two would give you a fairly good idea about the wastage of time you have been doing quite efficiently.

Squeeze some 30 minutes from those and indulge in some exercise.

Say yes to active commute

One of the easiest ways to make your life a little more active is to incorporate it in your daily routine. If you live close enough, try using bike or walking to your job place or school. In case you have to take a bus to your work, consider walking few blocks away to get the bus sooner.

If you have to take a drive to your work, you can consider parking it a few blocks away and walking down the office from there.

Indulge into something you love

Involving a sport which you enjoy playing would actually double the deal. Apart from keeping your active and energised, it would also help to reduce the stress levels and a fresh zeal of enthusiasm.

Challenge your limits

You tend to work more efficiently and result- oriented when you are challenged.

Well, we are on the same boat. Challenges often tend to work. It has been found that people indulging in a group fitness journey tend to be more successful. Consider joining a fitness group or challenge.

Abandon elevators/ escalators

No you don't need to climb stairs all the way to tenth floor to reach your office.

But whenever its possible, try picking stairs rather than elevators/ escalators. While in a mall or crossing subways, try hopping stairs rather than finding the easy way out. Making healthy choices count a lot in your fitness journey.

Don't take it too much into your head

There would be days when you wouldn’t find time for your exercises or do not reach your goal. Don't fret and enjoy the journey. There is always tomorrow to start fresh and energised once again.
