If you love to ski, Canada has some of the best skiing resorts out there. Even compared to the Alps, these are worth the drive and bearing the cold weather to enjoy.

Sun Peaks Ski ResortSun Peaks Ski Resort is one of the world’s newest ski resorts and its rise to global fame. In less than 20 years, it has grown to be the second largest ski area in British Columbia with approximately 4, 000 acres of luscious terrain for all levels of skiing and boarding abilities. Originally known as Tod Mountain, Sun Peaks Ski Resort celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the ski area during the 2011/12 ski season.

The characteristics of this resort is light, dry, easy-to-ski powder which spreads across three varied mountain faces is certainly a good starting point. Another highlight of Sun Peaks is the ski-through village that provides enough attractions and high quality service, for a very stress free ski holiday.

Sun Peaks Resort is located 45 minutes north of the Kamloops, in central British Columbia, Canada.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is one of the world’s newest ski resorts, having started up in the 2000/1 season. This Canadian ski resort, which is one of the six largest in North America, quickly develop a reputation for its big vertical drops and steep terrain that can be accessed from the resort’s remarkable Golden Eagle gondola.

Kicking Horse ski resort is located near the town of Golden, nestled between the Purcell and Rocky Mountains in the heart of British Columbia in Western Canada.

Locations don't come much better than the Banff Ski Resort which is among the breathtaking scenery of the Canadian Rockies.  The local skiing in Banff is split over two areas - Ski Norquay, which lies just beyond the town, and Sunshine Village, 20 minutes' drive away.  Most visitors ski at nearby Lake Louise too, which is included in a tri-area lift ticket.

With no shortage of shops, bars and restaurants, even non-skiers can enjoy a winter holiday in Banff. One downside is that you have to drive to reach the ski areas, unless you stay at the only hotel at Sunshine. Another factor to be aware of is that temperatures can plummet; skiers used to sunny European resorts should be prepared for the cold.  Watch out for elk too - there are 1, 000 of them in the area and you may actually spot them strolling along the streets!

Fernie Alpine Resort has the impressive snow record and worldwide reputation as being one of the world`s best spots for ‘steep and deep' terrain.  With this place`s Canadian charm, you can`t resist this resort designed for any skiing ability.  Visitors can base themselves in either - the city has more character, but staying in Fernie ski resort avoids the daily drive up to the mountain.  Fernie is located in the southeastern corner of the western Canadian province of British Columbia.
