Summer is here after a wonderful tryst with the snow, fireplace, heaters, furnaces and more.

Time for AC’s to roar

It’s time to enjoy the change in season. All you dream of is enjoying the warm weather with a cold drink and hamburger in hand, while the AC cools your home and makes it comfortable.

All you want to do now is avoid the need for emergency ac repair, when the AC fails to cool the indoor air.

Unfortunately, such a condition comes uninvited and without prior notice. All you can do at this time is bear the heat and sultry weather till the AC repair man arrives, which is rarely quick during the peak season. Professional repair men are busy maintaining, repairing, and servicing air conditioners in countless homes to ensure a comfortable summer season for everyone. But, the wait can be excruciating.

Often, the problem with the AC is small enough to rule out the need for emergency ac repair.

Back in Action

Here’s a list of the things you can do to bring your AC back into action.

Clean filters promise optimal air flow. However, dust and dirt tend to block the filters, thus, obstructing the air flow. Moreover, when the filters are clogged with dust and dirt, the dust tends to settle on other parts of the AC like the blower, thus, restricting the air flow further. Check your filters. Clean them if dirty, and replace if required. Ideally, you should clean them once a week.

A smart idea is to keep new filters handy. In fact, some AC service providers offer filter delivery services.

Often, registers are blocked unintentionally, thus, restricting the flow of cool air within the house. Undergo a register check in all the rooms of the house. Who knows; one or more of them may be blocked by a stacked up toy, or piece of furniture.

Loose connections and crumbling mastic tape is yet another reason for the loss of cold air. Inspect the ductwork for these. However, call a professional for finding cracks or holes; for, repairing these requires expertise.

Air flow is often restricted by an obstruction at the outdoor unit. You probably forgot to trim the grass or prune the trees surrounding your outdoor unit. Do it now.

If you have neglected it before, clear the area surrounding the outdoor unit from debris, excess plant growth, weeds, and more. Clear the area from debris up to 2 feet from the unit.

These tips prove handy in ensuring the flow of cool air in the home again. However, problems in the system apart from these require professional intervention and expert service and repair.

Ideally, AC maintenance and repair must be done twice in a year to ensure the upkeep of your AC. This maintenance should be done in addition to the tips mentioned above for efficient cooling.
