Prestwick Airport Parkings things to avoid in Barcelona

So you’re using Prestwick airport for your next holiday, you’ve got your tickets boked, you’ve got your passwords locked away, and you’ve used Care Free Parking to ensure you get the cheapest airport parking options in the UK. You’ve picked the sunny destination of Barcelona, which is the most popular non-domestic flight at Prestwick airport. However have you looked up the dos and don’ts for Barcelona? Well if you have, then feel free to read anyway in case we cover something you didn’t and if you haven’t then stick around whilst I explain what not to do in Barcelona.

Paella

First things first, don’t order paella. This may just seem like the demand of someone who doesn’t enjoy the rice based dish, but it’s not, if you want to taste real authentic paella then the likelihood is you’re not going to get it in Barcelona. The reality is, most places in Barcelona advertising paella are usually serving a frozen one much like you would find in your local Iceland. Barcelona is found in the Catalonia district of Spain, which has many great dishes you can only get here so instead of being hung up on the perceived Spanish staple dish try something new, such as Calçotada, Esqueixada and many more.

Food

Don’t eat in Las Ramblas, Las Ramblas is one of the most densely populated areas in Barcelona, it’s always full of tourists and businesses ripe to separate you from your hard earned cash. Think of Las Ramblas like the take away near your local night club, sure it’s alright but it’s not your first pick unless you’ve been in that night club, the restaurants littering this area, serve cheap food for high prices, which get even higher if they decided to double tax you. As any holiday blog will tell you, when looking for food places go off the beaten path and find somewhere not full of tourists, chances are the food is nicer and the customer service is better too.

Sombreros

The other two are light hearted suggestions compared to this one. Don’t wear, buy or even look at those stupid oversized Mexican hats which Americans serve nachos out of. It is culturally incorrect at no point in any region of Spain have those hats ever been worn, the popularity of early American television shows that displayed Mexicans and Spaniards as the same, made these hats a kitschy souvenir for any tourist visiting Latinised countries, meaning that now Spanish people have to look at tourists wearing a culturally incorrect piece of clothing every day. Don’t do it.

Flamenco

Like in all countries, different regions are known for different things, one thing Barcelona is not known for, is Flamenco dancing, this is just not this region's dance of choice, sure there are places that do it, but it’s kind of like going to a school play and hoping for Broadway quality, it’s unlikely and will leave you disappointed rather than full of passion like it’s meant to. If you want to see a traditional Barcelonan dance then go and see a Sardana, which is similar to a mix of river dancing and Morris dancing.

Clubbing

This one all depends on your age and personal preference, I personally go on holidays to relax and see new parts of the world, if I wanted to get drunk I’d go to the local club where I can white girl wasted for £10. However if you want to spend some time getting wasted in a club then the marina area is perfect for you, it’s full of young people oriented clubs that serve alcohol by the bucket. If that’s not your cup of tea, then head over to the harbour where you can find clubs which are appropriate for adults.

Sangria

And whilst we are on the subject of Alcohol, much like paella, if you’re after a glass of traditional sangria, then once again you’re in the wrong part of Spain. In Barcelona you are likely going to get some fizzy wine, fruity spirit and some chunks of orange if you ask for Sangria. Instead ask for Cava which is widely considered the champagne of Barcelona, some places do a Cava Sangria, which I totally approve of in the hot weather of Spain.

There you have it Care free Parking, the leading provider of the cheapest airport parking in the UK and Prestwick Airport parking’s list of things not to do in Barcelona, oh and one last thing, keep your shirt on whilst in the city, or you will face getting fined for public indecency, seriously.
