If you talk about old age homes or elderly care in India, many people consider it absurd. Is it any relevance of talking about it in a country where 60% population is below the age of 30 years? It may not be relevant today but what about 30 years from now? Due to increase in the average life expectancy, the country will turn into the land of senior citizens where around 60 percent of the population will fall in the age bracket of 60+ years. Moreover, the majority of them will be living alone because of the kids working abroad. Do you still feel that talking about Old age Home in Pune is irrelevant?

Social and economic reasons will drive the conditions

  • Even today, a large number of elderly parents live alone in flats, apartments, and individual homes because their kids work at a different place. However, the situation is going to change rapidly in the coming years.
  • Studies say that Indians will get further job opportunities in the developed countries. Since they will get better growth prospects, it will become tough for them to resist the temptation of getting settled abroad. The majority of parents will prefer staying in India alone instead of going abroad with their kids. Given the physical and emotional problems coming with the old age, we will require several Elderly care in Pune and other big cities.
  • There is a tremendous change in the human values and family values in India. Daily there are news items and programs on the television channels about parents being ill-treated by the children. Sociologists say that increasing influence of materialistic thinking is responsible for it. In this situation, parents prefer staying in Old age Home in Pune instead of living in pathetic conditions with their kids or other family members. According to the reports, only 1 in 10 cases of family abuse come into limelight. Remaining cases don’t come into light.
  • Due to economic dependency, parents are forced to live with the children even if they do not wish. In this situation, it is always better staying in a well-maintained Elderly care in Pune.

There are laws to safeguard the rights of elderly people

According to legal experts, there is Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act already in-force to safeguard the interests of parents. According to it, children are liable to take care of the parents and abandoning them is a punishable crime. Under the act, there could be a prison term of three months and/or fine if the children are found guilty of it. However, it is more a moral issue than legal. Parents may not be able to access the legal support always. It is the by-default responsibility of children to follow their duties.

If there is insensitivity towards it, then there is no option for the elderly people to live the last years of their life in old age homes. It becomes the hard core reality of today, whatever unpleasant it may be!
