How We Started Our Blog?!

It’s never too late…

This is our first blog but we just dove right into it. We had similar worries like any other first time blogger… "Errm, I don’t know what to write" "Uhhh, I can’t write that well"; the truth being it’s not about how complicated your topic is or how leveled your English is, what matters most is how you express yourself while writing.

Neither of us are literature majors nor did anyone in our team have a history in story telling!

Don’t let the fear of not writing a ‘good blog’ stop you from writing one. We realized that to keep up with today’s Internet of Things it’s important to write so that you can…

  • Express your thoughts and ideas behind your product
  • Keep your user’s or client’s knowledge up-to-date
  • Give your team the recognition they deserve
  • Engage with your users so that you become their trusted source for information
  • And of course, SEO. Though most companies do, it is the worst idea to make this your prime reason for writing a blog! Your intent shows in the quality of your content and reader engagement.

Always tell a story.

In our internal meetings during intense development and strategy conversations, one of us would suddenly make a point and draw a reference to an incident in their life, which would interestingly lead from one point to another and the meetings went on for hours. It would help conceptualize and conclude with decisions but totally mess-up our discussion timelines only because we all love stories, don’t we?

It is very important to choose a topic that speaks to you because every person has their own flare of writing and one needs to capitalize on their style of telling a story. A story is best told when the teller’s inclination is high. Readers love a good story built around even the most serious topics, it gives them something to imagine, visualize and relate to. So if I had to write about ’10 tips on skiing’, I would write it as a travel story and the tips would be highlighted as takeaways that I learnt on the trip or funnily put mistakes I made. It’s that simple.

Just write it the way you illustrated it

This blog looked like a BLOB before it was typed out, only because it was a bunch of sketches and pointers of what we must keep in mind for the articles we write. That seeded the thought that our first blog should be about arriving at everything that lead to making our blog page and that led us to start writing!

Once you have your topic and story line in place, just start typing or penning it down in easy-to-understand English and may be doodling a little might help too. Just write it the way you illustrated it. The worst mistake people make is researching online for a topic related to their own for ideas, but in that case the whole essence of a blog is lost. Blogging is a platform to share your own experiences, thoughts, ideas etc, and taking aid from someone else’s will only take away the uniqueness of yours. Finally, segregate your ideas into pointers and then further into paragraphs making it more sequential. Use as many images as possible to interest your readers. You can get some more information on blogging.

I’m not an Engineer *cringe*

That was all about the writing bit, now let’s get a bit technical. NONE of us have an IT background or are even close to understanding programming technicalities. How to put up an article and images and may be the details of the author up online for people to read? How do I get people to find it and read it?? How will the buttons to show more articles appear??? These questions were only answered by our web development team by a show of hands in a calming manner telling us "don’t worry, we’ll do it all". We had to research A LOT to understand how it all actually happens.

Everybody fears that their blog won’t get the reader’s traffic, just go slow! Start with trying to ‘own your links’ and ‘getting a site hosting service’ this will help you build your own blog portfolio. But if you are a first time blogger we highly recommend using wordpress, it’s a great platform to begin with and there are plenty of tutorials on Youtube that show you an easy step-by-step way of creating one on it. Next you need to design your blog page using the templates, make sure it is simple to browse through and easy for readers to find your articles topic-vise, comment on it and connect with you on social media.

Now, it is finally time to introduce you to the internet buzzword ‘Search Engine Optimization’ (SEO), it basically means using words and phrases that are most searched-for and installing plugins to attract the reader traffic. You could use Google Adwords Keywords Tools, signup and try searching for keywords for free by typing in your article topics and seeing the similar search terms people are Google-ing. Post publishing your article don’t just sit-back and hope for people to read your blog just-like-that, you need to ‘Share it’. The easiest way is make a Facebook page and link it to your blog. Invite your friends to read it and share it. Lastly, create a Google+ account and link it to your blog as well, Google is a dynamic platform and you as a blogger should make complete use of it!

Lastly, we’d also like to introduce to you TheChairr, which is a single platform that houses various service business in the ‘Wellness and Beauty’ sector, giving them an opportunity to connect to potential clients. Yes! I know it’s ‘TheChairr’ with double ‘rr’ but that didn’t stop ‘Facebook’ with ‘oo’ or ‘apple’ with ‘pp’ or ‘Twitter’ with ‘tt’, did it? We want to use this space to share industry related knowledge, problems that the players in this industry face and how to tackle them. We’ll also throw in some quirky posts regarding this sector once in a while. So join us to keep your business fit, pleasant and relevant to changing times!
