When you enable 2-Step Verification in Gmail (also known as two-factor authentication), you add an extra layer of security to your Google email account. You log in with something you know (your Gmail account password) and something you have (a code sent to your phone for verification).(Contact 1 866 324 3042 for Third Party Gmail customer service)

Set up 2-Step Verification
  1. Go to the Gmail 2-Step Verification webpage. You might have to Log in to your Gmail Account.
  2. In the "2-Step Verification" box on the right, click Start setup.
  3. Follow the step-by-step setup procedure.

Once you're finished, you'll be taken to the 2-Step Verification settings webpage. Review your settings and add backup mobile phone numbers. The next time you log in, you'll receive a text email with a new Gmail verification code. You also have the option of using a Security Key for 2-Step Verification.

Note: To ensure that you can access your Gmail account in the future, add an Google email recovery option as well.

Gmail account Passwords are the first line of security against account hijackers. If your Gmail account was recently compromised, you should change your account password now.

Think of a strong account password
  • Use unique and different passwords for your Gmail accounts, especially important accounts like email or other online banking account. Choosing the same Gmail password for each of your online email accounts is like using the same key to lock your home, car and office – if a criminal gains access to single one, all of them are compromised.
  • Use a long password for account security. The longer your account password is, the harder it is to guess.
  • Use your account password with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Try using a phrase that only you know. For example, for your email account you could start with "My friend’s karry and shame send me a funny email once a day" and then use numbers and letters to recreate it. "MfT&Jsmafe1ad" is account password with lots of variations.
