The changing face of the beauty industry

The last century has seen a tremendous shift in the beauty sector, been relatively stable and unaffected by the financial movements. Although the industry has quite vehemently incorporating the shifting trends and evolving scientific developments in the offerings making it an advanced and highly specialized industry, breaking the older stereotypes. his is a service sector and it has served to make people feel better about themselves and to look better. So far, so good; and so it continues, with one huge difference – it has now been affected by the technological revolution, and like all such sectors so affected before it, the survivors will be those who recognize that the pace of change is rapid and won’t wait for those who want to meander and feel their way.

Stereotypical beauticians.....

Not very long back, the industry was fraught with the dearth of actual technical input. The image of the beauty therapists brings back the old memories of pretty young girls who deemed not take their profession quite seriously. Their image was perceived to be of unintelligent ones, who have not got anything better to do with their lives. They were considered as people in dead-end jobs, - it was just filling in time until they got married, had children and stayed at home. To say they were a profession that went by pretty unnoticed is an understatement. In fact, these women were not considered to be therapists, just simple beauticians.

This gave way to the more of sales oriented roles in the beginning of the mid century which was also not quite a justice to the profession. The role demanded them to sell the products. The yesteryear's beautician now took the profile of a glorified sales girl which sometimes would be called out to carry out simple pampering sessions, as opposed to offering clients the therapy they needed. Considering that during their therapy training these beauticians would actually have acquired extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and practical therapies, it seemed a waste that it was not being implemented at a therapy level.

...Giving way to knowledgeable therapists

Things started to change and these beauticians, while staying under the umbrella of beauty market, started to study the effect of therapies in bringing about a holistic change in the customers' experiences. As the beauty industry develops, it is important always to be inquisitive and to explore further methods of helping people on a therapeutic level. By finding out what troubles people, and what they need, the professionals can carry on improving the industry. And, although it is wonderful that current and future technologies herald a host of body- and skin-enhancing tools and machinery, things have started to be perceived at a professionals level with focus on nurturing customers' experiences. Beauty is just not only rationale behind these activities, giving way to a more holistic approach towards the beauty segment which seems to have come along a long way.

Today, the customers are more concerned about the technical input which the professionals could bring into offerings making the industry a whole lot demanding and rewarding at the same time.
