One of the best ways to experience the rustic beauty of a place is through trekking. When it comes to Bhutan, it's still as pristine & majestic as it was centuries ago. It's filled with awe-inspiring natural beauty that infuses the mind with inexplicable tranquillity. Various trails that you'll undertake during Bhutan trekking tours are filled with excitement and scenic views. Various places (trails) that are covered within the Bhutan trekking tour packages are briefly discussed below.

Paro to Shana Trail

This adventurous trek begins at Drukgyal Dzong which is a ruined fortress that has a great cultural & historical importance. The prize trophy of this more than a week long trek, Mt. Jhomohari (or, Jomolhari), can be seen from here. This first leg of the trek is about 14 Km long that takes around 5-6 hours and its fairly easy. During this captivating trail you can see plenty of small villages, farmhouses, and extensive cultivated lands. You can see spectacular views along the Paro River and watch native people going about their daily business in a leisurely way. You'll have overnight camp at Shana.

Shana to Thangthangka

This part of the trek is slightly more taxing than the first one as we are at higher altitudes and walking through rough terrain which is part rocky. During this trail we are still moving alongside the river and can hear the sound of water rushing through different small passages. In the forest area you can spot different bird species and trees. Because we are gaining altitude, near the end of the trail you can also see yaks. This trail is around 20 Km long with an estimated duration of 8 hours.

Thangthangka to Jangothang

Trail from Thangthangka to Jangothang is about 15 Km with approximate duration of 6 hours. This trail is continued along the Paro River to reach a base camp for continued trail towards Mt. Jhomohari that is the source of Paro River and the second highest peak in Bhutan. Since we are reaching altitudes of around 4,100 metres, yaks can be seen quite regularly with yak herdsmen. You can also see riveting snow-capped mountains along the way as you reach closer to the base camp. Temperature in this area could be perilously low, so wear significant amount of layers and be wary of high altitude sickness. In the region there is also a beautiful lake known as Tsho Phu which should be visited if the time & weather allow.

After a day's rest, the journey back to Paro is started from Jangothang going through Shana and Thangthangka. This return trek will take around 3 days.
