Barcelona is the ultimate luxury destination. Astonishing architecture, a beautiful climate, endless cultural activities and a famous fine drinking and dining scene make this vibrant seaside city an enchanting place to visit. In order to fully enjoy the finer things that Barcelona has to offer, I find that it is important to find a suitably luxurious hotel to check in to. After a day of exploring the magnificent city, you will want to be able to fully unwind and indulge. This allows you to recharge your batteries so that you are ready to go again the next day.

These are my personal recommendations for the top luxury hotels in Barcelona.

Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

A truly brilliant hotel situated on the famed Passeig de Gracia, Mandarin Oriental Barcelona is a hotel for those looking to live the high life. Top quality spacious rooms, excellent and attentive staff and top class amenities make for a terrific stay, but this hotel is a cut above the rest due to its superb communal areas. A beautiful Mimosa garden, the elegant Banker’s Bar and a sensational rooftop pool with panoramic views right in Barcelona’s cultural hub provide the perfect chance to unwind. The Barcelona airport shuttle can take you straight to the front door in just 20 minutes.

Majestic Hotel & Spa

Also found on the Passeig de Gracia is Majestic Hotel & Spa – a grand hotel bursting with style and character. Found between Gaudi’s glorious Casa Batllo and his apartment block, La Padrara, this is a hotspot for Gaudi architecture and high end shopping. The hotel itself boasts luxury bedrooms, complete with fantastic facilities and a Nespresso machine in each room. A host of excellent facilities include a rooftop pool, spa, sauna and fitness centre. You can also treat yourself to a champagne breakfast in the elegant dining room and terrace, or an evening cocktail on the rooftop Dolce Vitea bar where you will find a lively scene which also attracts the locals. This is also just a 20 minute drive from the airport.

Cotton House Hotel

A stunning hotel in the former headquarters of Barcelona’s cotton guild, Cotton House Hotel brilliantly combines the elegance of the original building along with modern artwork and bold colours; all designed by interior designer Lazaro Rosa-Violan. Not only is it a beautiful hotel, but it also features large rooms with enormous beds and huge rain showers. The Batuar restaurant serves delicious Catalan dishes throughout the day, with the option of enjoying your food or drink on the terrace if the weather permits. The library is also an excellent drinking spot where you can unwind in comfort surrounded by highly stacked old books. 14 km from El Prat, the Barcelona airport shuttle will take you between 15 and 20 minutes.

Hotel Pulitzer

A stone’s throw from the iconic Placa de Cataluña where the old and new city meet, this establishment is perfectly situated for those looking to explore, but it is also tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood. Elegant rooms with leather sofas, wood and satin décor and dark marbled bathrooms create a luxury atmosphere, which also spreads throughout the hotel. A cool lobby cocktail bar complete with white leather sofas and red lacquered cabinets, a glass-ceiling restaurant serving delicious Mediterranean dishes and a glamorous rooftop bar make this a stylish and sophisticated hotel. Brilliantly located, this option will take your driver just 15 minutes from the airport.

These are my four top luxury hotels in the city, all of which are easily reached with the Barcelona airport shuttle which will swiftly get you to your destination so that you can begin enjoying the finest things this wonderful city has to offer.

Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct, the number one provider of shared and private airport transfers all over Europe and northern Africa. If you’re looking for an affordable Barcelona Airport shuttle, Lukas and his colleagues can make sure that you and your luggage get to and from the airport swiftly and safely.
