Marbella is famous for much more than its beautiful sandy beaches, marinas and upmarket boutiques – it is also a famous centre for gastronomy. For the serious foodie, a trip to the elegant resort would not be complete without a visit to at least one of its prestigious – and delicious – restaurants.

Here are five of the best I can personally recommend.

Skina

Located in the old town of Marbella, this compact Michelin-starred restaurant specialises in traditional Malagueños cuisine with a thoroughly modern twist. The restaurant itself is a blend of old and new with a stunning glass-enclosed wine cellar at its centre. Expect dishes like Lobster Tartare with Strawberries and Deer Ham with Celery.

Dani García Restaurant

With two Michelin-stars to his name, chef Dani García is a master at creating exciting and intoxicating flavour sensations. At his eponymous restaurant on Marbella’s Golden Mile, he aims to recreate the magic and wonder of childhood with a surprising mixture of tastes, textures and ultra-modern techniques. Expect dishes like Andalucían Stew of Pigs Ear, Foie Gras with Perigeux sauce and Pestinõs, Chocolate and Avocado.

El Lago Marbella

Located beside the prestigious Greenlife Golf Course with its verdant fairways, stunning lake and a backdrop of the Elviria Hills, the El Lago is a beautiful place to enjoy a truly special meal. The Michelin-star food is traditional Andalucían and inspired by the freshly sourced local produce.

Villa Tiberio

Set amidst 6,000 square metres of Italianate gardens complete with statues, waterfalls and pergolas, the restaurant at Villa Tiberio is well established as the eatery of choice amongst the discerning dinners of Marbella. Owned and run by international restaurateur Sandro Morelli, the cuisine is contemporary European with an Italian emphasis and includes: fresh pasta, Osso Bucco, Capesanti e Gamberoni alla Thermidor and Porchetta alla Villa Tiberio.

Soliluna

If you’re looking for a lively night out to go with your fine dining then Soliluna in the Calle Sierra Bermeja, is the perfect choice. With a selection of live entertainment, including tango and flamenco shows, held on its spacious terrace overlooking the gardens, dining here feels like joining a private party. The food is great too, with all the meat and seafood sourced locally and a regular Sunday lunch barbecue.
