GK – Thibaut Courtois – 85A strong Euro’s may not be enough to save Courtois from a downgrade, who suffered from injuries, poor form, and multiple suspensions over the course of the season. The Belgian is one of the best keepers in the world, but being with Chelsea may well have cost him his rating for next season.

GK – Asmir Begovic – 82Begovic was a strong deputy whilst Courtois was absent over various periods of the season, and was one of the better performers across their horrendous first half of the campaign. It would be likely to keep his rating the season.

RB – Branislav Ivanovic – 79Once one of the best defenders in the league, Ivanovic’s role in defence for Chelsea looks to be under serious scrutiny after a shocking year at the club. His defensive mishaps and unreliability was a key factor in Chelsea’s atrocious defending, and he should in all likelihood lose a rating for the next game.

LB – Cesar Azpilicueta – 81Azpilicueta did not benefit from playing in multiple positions across the defence, and his form dipped across many points in the season for this reason. It would not come as a surprise to see his rating take a hit.

LB – Baba Rahman – 78The talented young left back struggled to play as many games as what could have been expected whilst his supposedly superior teammates failed to defend adeptly across the season, and whilst Baba did not enjoy a great debut season with Chelsea, it seems unlikely he’ll lose a rating based on his previous good form with Ausburg in 2014-15.

CB – John Terry – 83The days of the former England captain being considered one of the best centre backs in Europe seem long over. Terry’s form saw him struggle with suspensions and injuries, and lacklustre defensive showings only highlight how big the drop in performance has been from Terry. A downgrade is almost a certainty at this point, though the slight up-turn in form in the second half of the season may have saved a greater fall in rating.

CB – Gary Cahill – 81Just like Terry, Cahill’s form over the season was dire for lengthy periods, and with the additional turgid showings at Euro 2016 the 30 year old appears to be heading for a considerable downgrade to the style of his captain. Cahill will likely lose a few ratings from his current one in FIFA 17.

CB – Kurt Zouma – 80Arguably the only defender at Chelsea who can hold their head high following the season, Zouma’s season was far above the standards set by Terry and co over the season. The Frenchman’s injury ruled him out of Euro 2016, but it’s clear Zouma is one of the best young defenders in Europe, and an upgrade will likely be given to him to reflect this.

RM – Willian – 83If Willian’s strong performances in 2014-15 weren’t enough to earn the Brazilian winger an upgrade, his performances this season make him the sole candidate for the best performer at Chelsea over the season and well deserving of an upgrade. His form was the sole highlight of a diabolical first few months of the season for Chelsea, and his responsibility as a set piece taker and an attacking offset proved crucial for Chelsea not completely sliding into recession. Willian should be able to go into FIFA 17 at least a rating higher.

RM – Juan Cuadrado – 83Cuadrado struggled under his first season at Chelsea as his lack of game time proved costly for his development – yet a move to Juventus on loan helped him rediscover his form and now the Colombian could be a key part of the Chelsea team going into next season. A return to his rating from FIFA 15 would be a fair upgrade for him.

LM – Eden Hazard – 87Hazard’s stellar form in 2014-15 set him up for being one of the biggest disappointments of Chelsea’s season – the Belgium winger failed to score in the league until April and arguably represented the biggest drop in performance of any Chelsea player in the first half of the season. A strong Euro 2016, however, may keep Hazard’s downgrade from being catastrophic – though given the scale of the disappointment on the Chelsea front, Hazard will certainly be falling from the esteemed 89 rating he earnt last year.

CM – Cesc Fabregas – 85Just as Hazard struggled to replicate his strong form from 2014-15, Fabregas struggled to make himself present for the entire campaign. Though his drop in form arguably started in early 2015, at no point in the season did Fabregas return to his previous heights, and a dismal Euro 2016 only puts the nail in the coffin for his rating. Fabregas will surely be one of the high profile downgrades of FIFA 17.

CAM – Oscar – 83Injuries certainly didn’t help Oscar’s season at Chelsea, but it can’t be said that the Brazilian playmaker enjoyed a successful year with his club. Whilst he wasn’t as poor as some of his teammates, a downgrade still seems likely for the player.

CDM – Nemanja Matic – 82Matic’s role as a holding midfielder was one of the key reasons for Chelsea’s excellent season in 2014-15, yet his non-performances this season will almost certainly lead to a downgrade for the Serb in FIFA 17. Lacklustre and lethargic, it seems likely Matic will be dropping a few ratings going into the next game.

CDM – John Obi Mikel – 76Mikel, like Oscar, was not one of the worst performers for his club this season, yet his clear decline as a player and his continued lack of form in the defensive midfield role should see him lose a rating next season.

CM – Ruben Loftus Cheek – 70Loftus Cheek appears to have grown considerably as a player at Chelsea, despite the turmoil going on at the club, and EA will likely reward the player’s development as a player with an upgrade within the silver rankings.

LW – Pedro – 82Pedro’s move to Chelsea did not reward the Barcelona forward well – a struggle for form plagued the Spaniard over the season and saw him dropped midway through the season. It would be a surprise to see him keep his rating next year.

ST – Diego Costa – 84Undoubtedly one of the failures of the season, 2015-16 will be a major disappointment for Diego Costa. A fall out with the manager, an atrocious goal tally and a complete lack of form afflicted Costa for the first few months, and whilst he recovered his form for periods in the second half of the season the damage was long done with Spain dropping him for the Euro 2016 squad. A major downgrade should be on the way for Costa, being a high profile player who didn’t perform over the season.

ST – Loic Remy – 81Remy struggled to get a game following his transfer to Chelsea, which makes a change in rating seem highly unlikely for the Frenchman going into FIFA 17. His ability as a striker is clearly present though, and it would be surprising to see him drop a rating as a result of his lack of playing time.

ST – Michy Batshuayi – 80Batshuayi looks to be on the way to an upgrade for FIFA 17 – a strong season with Marseille, a goal at Euro 2016 and a move to a Premier League club will all contribute to a potential upgrade. The young Belgian is more than capable of earning an upgrade going into the next game.
