Packing Tips for Going on Safari
Posted: Aug 20, 2016
If you’re planning on going on safari in Africa, you are bound to have a good time. However, the entire trip will be a mess if you don’t pack correctly. If you haven’t been to Africa before, you probably won’t know what to expect, which means you probably won’t be prepared. Read on to find out a few tips for packing your bags to head off on your safari.
Pack the Right ClothingThe best think you can do is take along lightweight clothes that can be layered for when it gets a little cooler. You may have seen safari clothing that is convertible, such as trousers that can be zipped off and turned into shorts. These are ideal, so try to buy a few for the trip. Additionally, instead of only having short sleeved shirts, take longer sleeved ones that can be rolled up. This way you can be sure you are prepared for whatever weather, which varies throughout the continent and throughout the day as well.
Have a jacket with you as well. Try to take one that is resistant to water and will keep you warm when the weather is cool. You will also need a light colouredhat with a wide brim to protect you from the sun. Make sure that your shoes are closed toe shoes as there are little insects that can get onto your feet and cause you some pain.
Sunscreen and Insect RepellentFor the most part, you can protect yourself from those insects with repellent. You will get a mosquito net for sleeping under, but you should always wear insect repellent while on your African safaris nevertheless. Additionally, take some sunscreen along and protect your skin from the harsh rays of the afternoon sun. Have a checklist of any medications you might need, antihistamines, painkillers, and antibiotics just in case you fall ill while on the trip. Make sure to take these in your luggage.
Use the Right LuggageSpeaking of which, you should make sure that the bags you use are soft sided. This will allow you to pack more of your belongings in, as a hard sided case is not flexible. Use bags that have wheels so that it is easier to take the cases around. You can save your clothes from getting too wrinkled by rolling them up instead of folding them. This will allow you to save on space too.
Additional Points to RememberYou will have to get a few vaccinations before you go on the trip, which may depend on where exactly you will be travelling. You may want to have added protection, however, so you should ask your doctor to prescribe you anti-malaria medication and anything else he or she can recommend for the trip.
Also, remember to take your digital camera with you so that you can immortalize those awe-inspiring scenes and all the creatures you will spot.
With these tips, you should be all set to jet off on that African safari and have the experience of a lifetime.
