The total test duration of IELTS exam is 2hrs and 45 minutes. It comprises of four modules i.e. listening, reading, writing and speaking. In listening section, there are 40 questions, each of one mark. After checking, marks are converted into bands. Then, the mean of all bands scored in each section are carried out to check out the final band. Same pattern goes with reading sections, where marks are allotted, followed by conversion of marks into bands. Coming to the writing section; there are two tasks i.e. task 1 and task 2. Total time limit for task 1 is 20 minutes, whereas for task 2 are 40 minutes. In task 1, students are asked to write 150 words by having a look on a diagram or table, provided on the question sheet. They are judged on the ability to describe the diagram through words, comparing the data and vocabulary and sentence structure. For task 2, students are asked to provide solution for a given argument or problem. They are judged on the ability to solve the problem and justify their opinion. Both the tasks are scored on a band of 1-9.Speaking test is assessed on four broad areas namely fluency and coherence; lexical resource; grammatical area; and pronunciation. First three sections are scored out of 9 and the fourth is marked as 2, 4, 6 and 8.
