If you’re planning a ski holiday in France’s most happening ski resort this season, then it’s worthwhile planning ahead. After all, you don’t want to spend precious skiing or party time trawling the internet for travel guides and reviews.

One of the first things to sort out will be your transport from Geneva to Chamonix. If you’re travelling in a group, then the most comfortable and easy option will probably be to a private pre-booked airport transfer. Just let your shuttle company know what equipment you’ll be travelling with and they will send a vehicle big enough to fit you, your mates and all your skis, boards and boots.

Skiing and Boarding in Chamonix

If you’ve booked your holiday already then you are probably aware that Chamonix, nestled at the foot of Mont Blanc, is one of the world’s most challenging ski areas. The resort has a variety of pistes for all level of skiers, not to mention off-piste terrain which will have you testing your skills to the max.

The varied ski area means you can spend your mornings down among the trees and then venture up to the wide glacier pistes for an afternoon amongst the peaks. At the end of the day, take the hugely enjoyable 20km Vallée Blanche glacier run all the way back into the valley.

Chamonix Town

You’ll notice when you travel from Geneva to Chamonix that, unlike many resorts, Chamonix is a thriving, bustling Alpine town with a permanent population of around 10,000. This gives the town a uniquely cosmopolitan feeling compared to other ski resorts, with locals and visitors all enjoying the vibrant town and nightlife together.

Set at the base of Europe’s largest mountain with a fast melt-water river gushing through its centre, the Victorian and Belle Epoque buildings make this a pretty place to stroll around.

There are plenty of shops in the pedestrianised centre where you’ll be able to stock up on the very latest extreme ski and board gear (although don’t expect to find too many bargains, as prices can be steep). There are also a great range of fashion outlets and plenty of food shops and supermarkets for those who are self-catering or just fancy a snack. The outdoor market on Saturday is priced for locals so it’s a great place to buy local meats and cheeses.

Nightlife

If you travel in from Geneva to Chamonix at night, you’ll immediately notice the vibrant lights and bustle of the town’s busy nightlife.

From restaurants of every type and cuisine imaginable to bars and nightclubs, there is as much to do here after dark as there is during the day.

Check out Monkey in Chamonix Sud for live music and a very cheap happy hour. Or if it’s snowing, head inside at The Vagabond to enjoy the lively atmosphere, drinks, and bar snacks beside its huge, roaring log fire. Then dance the night away to live music at the famous Chambre 9.
