Hortain Plains

Located in the hilly terrain of the nation, the Hortain Plains was founded during the British Rule and in was established as a nature reserve in 1969 and a National Park in 1988. The National Park covers an estimated area of 3159 hectares at a height of 2300 metres above the sea level. It is also home to Sambar deer and several endemic birds of Sri Lanka.

Sinharaja Rain Forest

Sinharaja Forest is spread in around 8,864 hectares in dimension of 21 km in length and 7 km in width. The dense area is located southwest in the low land west zone of the Galle, Matara and Rathnapura districts of the country. In 1989 it was declared as a World Heritage Site. The highlights of Sinharaja are its unique features that include endemic trees, endemic birds and mammals and butterflies of the forest reserve.

Yala National Park

It is one of the biggest protected areas which cover 98,000 hectares of the mainland. Located at the southern tip of the island, the park is full of elephants, wild boars, peacocks and other birds. Major parts of the reserve are parklands along with jungle, beaches, freshwater lakes and rivers.

Wilpattu

Wilpattu is Sri Lanka's largest national park and is home to elephants, leopards and sloth bears. The adventurous place is located in the north of Colombo and is a very popular eco tourism destination.
