A massage practitioner should always be in a healthy mental state to perform the different massage techniques. There may be several things occupying your mind about your daily household chores, your family or anything else, which may create an imbalance between your personal life and professional life. Healing your mind through spiritual practices will help you attain a peaceful state of the mind which is extremely important for a massage therapist.

For spiritual/mental preparation, you may try meditation as it helps discover wisdom, love and our capacity of self-healing. Many experts describe meditation as a system to augment mental and spiritual purification, as well as to strengthen the immune system. Also meditation is believed to have therapeutic effects which is why it is becoming more and more popular for its medicinal effects.

However, for someone practicing meditation, it is recommended to be patient in your practice as it can be sometimes challenging to stay in the same position for a long time. Although distractions may appear in the beginning, they will soon vanish once you reach the appropriate state of the mind.

There are several meditation techniques known to date, such as breathing exercises, mantra chanting and through movement etc. Keep in mind a few recommendations before you practice any of the aforementioned techniques, such as -

  1. Regular practice – Practice meditation regularly to get better at it. Take it as a sport, the more you practice, the better results you will achieve.
  2. Best time to meditate – Early in the morning is usually considered as the best time to practice meditation to avoid sleep. However, in case you sleep during the meditation, don't be worried. The practice of meditation takes some time to be proficient at, so try to be patient and continue practicing it.
  3. Find a suitable place – Practice meditation in a quiet and calm atmosphere. Sit in a comfortable posture.
  4. Keep your phone silent – Switch off your device or keep it silent with no vibration as it can disturb your practice of meditation.
  5. Be a witness – If you are feeling loss of control or feeling light or heavy, don't be scared as this could be an indication that you are in a deeper state of meditation.

Many times, massage practitioners may feel out of balance due to their regular agenda. Making an effort to change diet, lifestyle and practicing meditation will help them relieve off their mental fatigue and heal their clients better. It is free, easy to do and can do wonders for your health and well-being!
