A Typical Holiday Itinerary for the Family in Aquitaine

Whenever a family is searching for a fun and adventurous destination for their summer holiday, I always like to recommend Aquitaine, France. There are dozens of excellent activities to try, all against a magnificent backdrop which encompasses lush pine forests, blue lakes and sandy beaches.

This is what a typical family holiday in Aquitaine would look like when you book with us.

Day 1

Once you arrive at the Moilets et Maa resort (a short drive from Bordeaux-Merignac airport), you can get checked in by the friendly staff and get settled in your beautiful private villa complete with your own pool. The rest of the day can be spent exploring the resort and finding your bearings before enjoying the local cuisine.

Day 2

After a good night’s rest, you will be raring to go the next morning. A 2-hour surf lesson (first of 5) is a great way to kick-start your family holiday and get your adrenaline pumping. This will leave you with quite the appetite, so reward your hard work with a delicious and freshly prepared lunch of locally sourced dishes. After a few hours of relaxing back at the villa, imagine an early evening stroll down the beach where you can either continue practising surfing or simply sit back and unwind on the glorious sandy beach...

Day 3

After another morning surf lesson under your belt, you may want to get out and explore the local area. You could hire some bikes and follow one of the many cycling tracks which will unveil breathtaking natural beauty. Alternatively, a horseback ride through Landes forest is a unique and fun way to venture into the dense woodland. After all that adventure, you could then spend the evening unwinding in your pool and chilling out at the villa.

Day 4

Following surf lesson number 3 (there is no better way to start the day), sport lovers have the option of playing a round of golf with two pristine courses in the resort (9-hole and 18-hole), or a game of tennis if you’d prefer (golf lessons are also available). Alternatively, you could try your hand at paddle boarding, sailing, exploring the National Park or simply relaxing on the beach, at the villa or at one of the many scenic spots nearby.

Day 5

With surf lesson number 5 complete, spend the day sailing on the gorgeous inland fresh water lakes and take in the beauty of your surroundings, or perhaps give the kids a chance to try a family-friendly activity that they haven’t tried yet. This will give you the well-deserved chance to escape for a fun and romantic afternoon of wine tasting at a local vineyard.

Day 6

After your final surf lesson (you will really have got the hang of it by now), I find that most families want to spend their final full day soaking up the sun on the beach and lazing around – just remember to apply sufficient sun cream! You can also spend this time to honing your surfing skills, all before a relaxing evening in the villa.

Day 7

Drive back to the airport for the return flight home.
